Nick poked his head into Isaac and I's room, a smile wide on his face. The three of us had decided to take a trip up to New Jersey and Pennsylvania to visit our families for Christmas, since Last to Leave ended earlier than anticipated. The plan was to fly to Pennsylvania first and visit Isaac's family, then drive over to New Jersey.
"Hey, you guys packed? We need to be leaving for the airport soon. Yumi is getting impatient."
I laugh. Yumi, being the only other one in the house with a car here in Texas, got stuck with the job of driving us to the airport, since neither Nick nor Isaac felt like leaving their car at the airport for a week.
"Almost ready! I need to pack my toiletries, then I'm done. I think Isaac is in the closet grabbing his last few things."Isaac had been acting strange for the past few days; distant and a bit quiet, which was totally out of character, but yesterday it was as if none of it had happened. He was back to his normal routine, editing and recording, hanging out with the rest of us. It was strange, but I had to remind myself that his privacy had been breached too, not just mine. He probably needed some time to deal with how that felt.
Nick nods before making his way back out into the main house. A moment later, I hear Yumi's loud, dramatic groan. I snort, walking into the bathroom looking for Isaac.
"Isaac?" I call as I start collecting my things, "You almost ready? Yumi is getting tired of waiting on us, and Nick is packed."
Isaac's head appears in the closet door, glasses a bit askew. "Yep, I'm ready."
He closes the closet door behind him as he leaves it, a small stack of shirts in his hand.
He brushes his fingers across my hip as he walks past me, a touch so light that it leaves goosebumps in its wake. I watch him in the mirror as he leaves, relishing in even that small touch.I set my small collection of toiletries in their designated places in my suitcase, looking everything over one final time before zipping it closed. I grab my backpack, packed with all of my carryon items; my laptop, chargers, and various other things to keep me entertained on our flight.
Yumi is waiting at the door with his arms crossed, Nick standing next to him on his phone.
"Finally! Are you guys ready? You took forever." Yumi whines.
"We have like three hours before our flight, we're way ahead of schedule." I argue back as we make our way down the front steps and to the driveway, where Yumi's car sits.☆。*。☆
I nudge Nick awake as our plane touches down, shoving at his shoulder as he snores away.
"Nick." I say, pushing at him once more, "Nick. Wake up, the plane landed. Get up."
He swats at me and I groan, shoving him harder. He cracks an eye open, glaring at me as the people start shuffling past us towards the exit.
"Get the fuck up, dude. I can't get into the aisle unless you move your big ass." I say, kicking at his legs.
He rolls his eyes and stands up, stretching and starting to grab our carryon bags. I follow him into the aisle, grabbing my bag and moving to leave the plane. I can hear Nick still grumbling behind me, whining about being tired. I stand on the boarding bridge, bouncing on the balls of my feet as Isaac and Nick make their way out of the plane.
"Isaac, you said mom is waiting at the arrivals gate right?" I ask excitedly. Isaac's mom, Anna, is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. The day Nick and I met her, she immediately took us in and made us feel at home. She introduced us to Isaac's siblings, showed us embarrassing pictures of Isaac, and invited me to cook with her that evening. Since then, she's always gone out of her way to invite Nick and I to family events, swearing that it's no bother, since we're "already part of the family."
