This part takes place at the same time of part 11 of the Fedex Story.
I started to zone out the instructions Tiergan was giving us when I noticed Linh starting to fidget beside me - she was worried. If that wasn't enough to convince me, I would've still known from her wide smile - anyone could've noticed. Linh always smiled whenever she was worried. I laced my fingers with hers. She looked up at me, startled like she'd forgotten I was there. But soon, her surprise morphed into a smile that I'd learned to treasure above all else.
Linh wasn't the only person that seemed to be out-of-sorts, though. Although Dex seemed perfectly normal as he nodded along to Tiergan's instructions, I knew there was something off about him. I couldn't place my finger on what, though. When he caught my eye, I mouthed 'You ok?'. He nodded in response but I still wasn't convinced. I hadn't noticed that Tiergan had given the instruction to move out until Linh tugged at my hand.
I tried, and failed, to squash down my rising nerves as we snuck into the hideout. At least I had Linh - that was the one thought that kept me from being terrified out of my wits. Once we'd gotten in, Linh pointed out the barrels (don't judge me I honestly have no idea what they would store sopridine in 🤷♀️) of soporidine to me. "Yes!" I whispered, pumping my fist in the air. "I'm so gonna beat Keefe!" Linh cleared her throat and stopped unloading the barrels to look at me. "What did you say?" she asked, looking at me expectantly.
"Oh! Uh, nothing?"
"Really? Because it sounds a lot like to me that you have a bet with Keefe?" Linh arched and eyebrow. "He betted a bunch of rare prattle pins! Can you blame me?" I protested. Linh just rolled her eyes and laughed softly. We'd gotten about halfway through the barrels when Mr Forkle yelled into our earpieces to 'Get out of there now!' I grabbed Linh's hand immediately and started to run. She was a surprisingly fast runner so she definitely didn't need my help but I held onto her hand anyway, finding comfort from the feeling of her hand in mine. We'd just about made it out, panting wildly, when the first of the bombs went off. I sighed in relief and looked at our friends.
Biana was huddled close to Tam, who was standing by her protectively. I smirked and nudged Linh's shoulder. She looked at me and I pointed to Tam and Biana. "How are they not together yet?" I asked. Linh giggled in response. I looked at Keefe and Sophie. Keefe had his arm around Sophie, who was shaking like crazy. At first, I thought it was because she was exhausted from running here but then I noticed tears running down her face that Keefe softly brushed away and realised that Dex wasn't here yet. Neither was Fitz, for that matter. "Oh my gods," I breathed. (say what you want, but it's just second nature for me to do that, okay?) "Dex went in there to save Fitz," I said.
"What?" Linh asked, voice raised. She started to move away but I stopped her. "Linh, you can't go in there!" I argued.
"But- The bombs!" she protested.
"Linh, they'll find a way, okay? They'll be fine. I just... I can't loose you." Linh's face softened. "Okay." I sighed but didn't exactly feel relaxed. There was still something on my mind. I chewed my lip. "They'll be okay," I whispered to myself. "They'll be okay..."famous last words- SORRY I KNOW THAT WASN'T FUNNY. also, guys, believe me when i say i am scrambling to answer all your comments i swear im trying but i havent gone through my notifications in like a month bear with me 😭
