Oh, hey, the Skylanders found the Chief! Unfortunately, they just had to make their return by waking me up with their magic.
June 15th
Dear Boom Diary,
The roaring of an engine and a ripping wind startled me awake. I fell out of the hammock, then stumbled up while rubbing my head with one hand. "Hey, what's the..."
Boom, Free, a Gill Person, a Yeti, and an old fox were exchanging words with Doofus and Tess, ignoring my wondrous presence. The people Kaos captured merely looked tired. I waved my other hand. "Heeeello? What in the Ancients are you talking about that's more important than disturbing my beauty sleep?"
Knight teleported next to me. "Stop it, Flynn! Can't you see they've found the Chieftess?"
I cocked an eyebrow. "Well, yeah, but they're being super rude."
He sighed. "Getting our leader back is more important than sleep. She's the only one who can communicate with all four corners of Cloudbreak at once through the Elementals."
"Well, what's so important about fast communication anyway?"
Right on cue, the oldest fox turned to us. "We overheard what Kaos' plan might be from our captors."
A stunned silence fell over everyone except me. "Well, what am I missing out on?"
"Kaos may be trying to unearth a more powerful strand of Dark magic in the Elementals' robot dumping ground, the Rampant Ruins."
I scratched my head. Among the people who previously applauded me at Boom Town when I set my ship down, two of them were the marvelous Mabu mole, Nightshade, and the disagreeable Dreadwalker diver, Nightfall. It's funny how both have "Night" in their names. "But isn't that a good thing? Folks who specialize in Dark magic will be able to further hone their abilities."
Free shrugged. "Perhaps, if it's in the right hands. They mentioned undergoing some sort of ritual with it to increase their and Kaos' power."
The Chieftess locked eyes with the vampire. "Night, you know as well as I do that Kaos' attack was not like him. I am asking you to spy on their ritual in the Rampant Ruins."
He bowed his head. "Magna and I will be back before the gong's echo fades."
She raised her hands as the gathering crowd began speaking over each other. "We will share everything over breakfast in the Great Hollow, after we clean up."
All four of the Yeti's arms carried the fox to the infirmary. The Gill Person was trailing a few steps behind while muttering something about "popping" again. Maybe she loves popcorn?
Anyway, nobody was allowed into the showers until the Chieftess and her councilors finished. A few awkward minutes passed, and I was starting to think that showing off my flying skills to Knight and Magna en route to the Overgrown Remnants would've been more entertaining if the bot and Spy had finished repairs yesterday. The cyborg didn't follow us to the infirmary, so I assumed he was putting the last touches on the Dread-Yacht while observing Woodburrow's leaders with his magic.
I turned to Tessa.
"Wouldn't you also be taking a few extra minutes to clean up if you were a leader who was just rescued?"
I reluctantly closed my mouth, nodded. "You make an excellent point." Behind her, Wash and Hoot had just finished a game of Skystones on the floor. I moved over. "Mind if I join in?"
A violet aura surrounded the owl's wand, and another board appeared next to the first. He handed me ten blue stones.
The octopus looked at the hunter from the original board. "Tess, want in as well?"
