I started the engine and pulled away from the curb, already dialing Isidor's number. "It's done," I said into the phone. "I've got the package."
"Good, just get back to base." I turned the car to the highway and sped off into the night.
"Isidor, you know I hate when you send me on these errands," I said, trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice.
"Yes but- Melina, you are going to get yourself killed, get out of the alley with him. I don't care if he is your type!" A beep then his voice again. "Sorry, if she doesn't die, I'm going to kill her."
I laughed as I pulled out my phone. "Don't worry, Isidor. I'll take care of it. Give me her address."
"Thanks, but don't you hate her?"
"Yes, but I can punish her if I get her."
"Works for me." He sent me the address and I hung up. I quickly found the alley, it was dark and smelled like piss and garbage. Melina had her back to the wall and a tall dark man had his arms around her waist. He was wearing a suit and had a smug grin on his face. He kissed her lips passionately.
"Melina," Her head snapped up as she heard my voice, "Isidor couldn't get you to listen so he sent me."
Her eyes narrowed, "What do you want?"
I shrugged, "I want you to complete your mission. The one he sent you on."
She laughed, "And why should I do that?"
I smiled and pulled a gun out. "Because you're in a mafia, you don't get to say no to things like this." I pulled the trigger and the man fell to the ground, a bullet in his head.
She looked at me, anger clear in her eyes. "You bastard!" She lunged at me, but I held her back.
I laughed and pushed her away. "Come on, Melina. You're not going to kill me, but I will kill you." I picked her up and threw her to the wall. She hit the wall and a blast of blood covered the wall. She coughed up blood.
"You know... you should have just done what you were told. This could have all been avoided." I walked over to her and kicked her head to the ground.
"But oh well, now you're going to pay the price. Isidor will be so disappointed." I leaned down, grabbed her by the hair, and dragged her out of the alley. I pushed her into the backseat of my car and slammed the door.
As I drove away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Another job well done. I called Isidor to let him know it was taken care of. "It's done," I said. "She's in the car and I'm bringing her back."
"Thanks, do me a favor and bring her to the infirmary first. Make sure she's alright."
"Will do," I replied. "On my way now."
The infirmary was located at the heart of the mafia's headquarters, a heavily guarded complex where only the most trusted members had access. As I pulled up to the gates, they swung open automatically, allowing me entry. The interior was dimly lit, with medical equipment lining the walls and armed guards patrolling the hallways.
I tossed her on the bed and left the guards running to the bleeding mess. I laughed and popped five pills in my mouth.
"What's so funny?" one of them asked.
"Oh, I was just thinking about how much fun it is to take care of problems like her," I said, gesturing to Melina.
"Aram will be mad."
"She was making out with an enemy Mafioso and Isidor couldn't get her to stop so I had to leave my mission to get her."
They all laughed. "You know you're a psycho, right?"
