I head down the hallway when I heard talking, then footsteps. I looked around, my heart beating fast. I notice a small desk that I can hide under, it's not the best spot but it's worth a shot.  I crawl under the desk and get as far out of sight I can get.

Three cops walk by. I'm pretty sure they're heading to the cell room, so I need to be quick. Once I can't see them anymore I sneak to the lobby. I look around and see nobody at the front desk. I run out the door and towards the library.

I walk through the library door, the bell jingling as I do so. The library is empty, dark, and quiet, nothing like it was when Miss. Ray was here.

I decide to pick up a few small books to keep me entertained on my journey. I also pick up some fabrics, a needle and thread and a first aid kit. I check everything over before I head to Miss. Rays room. In Miss. Rays room I search for a paper and pen, once I find what I need, I write her a note.

Dear Miss. Ray,

I don't know how long you're going to be gone for, but I feel I should tell you about what just happened. Me and Caspian ran out of food so we had to resort to theft once again. The cops found us and Caspian is being brought to an orphanage, I was going to jail but I managed to escape. I'm headed to the village past our old hut and through the forest. I just want you to know that I thank you very much for letting us stay with you and giving us a chance.

Love,  Zara.

I neatly fold the note and place it one her bedside table. I swing my bag over my shoulder and head out the door. I hear a commotion outside and immediately duck down under a window, peaking, I see silhouettes of multiple people with sticks of light in their hands. What is it called again? Fire! Torches, their holding torches and shouting things. I see one of them point to my area. They're looking for me. I dart towards the forest. The rain coming down harder and faster. I run past our old hut and stop when I run out of breath, my hands on my knees as I catch it. I find a tree that keeps me dry from the rain and sit under it. I breathe in and out slowly, trying to calm myself, I start calming down until I hear a loud "THRACK". I flinch at the noise and start seeing flashes of light through the canopy of the trees. My heart starts pounding and my breathing shortens again.

Why? Why? Why?

Oh, dear god. Why now? Why not when Miss. Ray was home and healthy? She would have comforted me. She knows how scared I am of storms. I still don't know why though. Maybe it has something to do with my memory loss? That doesn't matter, just find shelter.

I rush to my feet and run through the jungle, rain pouring down and hitting my face hard. I can barely see anything. I keep running until I trip and fall into something wet, I look down and realize it's only a puddle. I quickly get back on my feet, losing my balance and getting dizzy. Not paying attention to my state I push more and keep running. Leaves and branches smack my face and body, it leaving stings and open wounds where they hit. I eventually find some sort of cave, it'll work for now.

I collapse on the hard ground, the sharper rocks pinching at my body. I sit up and stretch out my arms and legs in front of me, there were a couple scratches here and there and most of them were bleeding. I put my hands on my face to feel for any scratches, there's at least three from what I can feel: one on my lip, one on my cheek, and one on my forehead.

I search through my bag and pick up some cloth I can use to cover my wounds. I wrap it around sections of my arms and legs and clean the wounds on my face with the end of my shirt.

My heart is still racing and it's not slowing down anytime soon. Neither is the storm. The rain keeps pouring down harder and harder.

I lay my bag under my head and close my eyes. I try my best to fall asleep.
