Rez Wilson
The cozy dining room is bathed in the soft glow of candlelight, casting a warm ambiance over the intimate space. A small, round table is set for two, adorned with a simple floral centerpiece and linen napkins neatly folded at each place setting. The faint aroma of home-cooked food fills the air, promising a delicious meal ahead.
Rez enters the room, greeted by the sight of his mother bustling about the kitchen, putting the finishing touches on their dinner. She turns with a warm smile as she sees him, her eyes crinkling at the corners with affection. "Rez, darling, take a seat," she says, gesturing for him to take a seat.
Rez's mother ladles generous portions into their bowls, her eyes shining with pride as she watches him take the first spoonful.
For the main course, Rez's mother presents a dish reminiscent of his favorite childhood meal: tender beef stew simmered to perfection, served with fluffy mashed potatoes and buttered green beans. The aroma alone is enough to make Rez's mouth water, and he eagerly digs in, savoring every comforting bite.
"Mom?" Rez says softly, his voice carrying a hint of uncertainty.
His mother turns, her smile strained. "Yes Rez?"
As they embrace, Rez catches a glimpse of a scar marring his mother's forehead, partially concealed by her hair. A pang of concern grips his heart, mingled with a swell of protectiveness for the woman who raised him.
"Did you and dad fight again?" He raises his eyebrows
His mother's face falls pale "It's not like that Rez darling, he loves us" she said faking a smile and attempts to hide the scar again
"How long?" He pauses taking a deep breath before continuing "how long are you going to pretend mom that he loves and cares for us?"
He looks at her "the scars you have been carrying from years are proof, how much he loves her" he said with furrowed brows and downturned lips, conveying a mix of discomfort and sorrow.
"I am sorry my child" With a quivering shoulder and shaky breath she managed to speak out.
"Mom, he don't care about us. We mean nothing to him, He comes home drunk every night and let it out on us. How long are we going to endure this?" He said and places the spoon on table, and looks at her
There's a heaviness in his demeanor, with shoulders slumped and fists clenched, reflecting the burden of enduring his father's behavior and witnessing the pain it causes his mother.
"I don't know Rez, I am tired of everything" A tear rolled down her cheek as she let those words out
His heartaches at the sight of his mother, and the pain she's been going through
"You're not alone Mom, I'll always be there your side" he looks at her, his expression softening as he sees her mother tears stricken face
Throughout dinner, Rez's mother busies herself with serving their meal, her movements graceful yet tinged with an air of unease. Rez notices her subtle attempts to conceal the scar, a silent testament to the pain she carries, both physical and emotional.
The atmosphere at the dinner table is heavy with unspoken words, the tension palpable as they navigate the awkwardness of their reunion. Rez's father's absence looms large, a silent presence in the room despite his physical absence.
As they dine on simple yet comforting dishes, Rez's gaze flickers between his mother's troubled expression and the empty chair where his father should have been. Memories of their tumultuous relationship weigh heavily on him, casting a shadow over what should have been a joyful homecoming.
Despite the underlying tension, there is a quiet strength in the bond between mother and son, a shared understanding born from years of weathering storms together. In the flickering candlelight, Rez finds solace in the warmth of his mother's presence, silently vowing to protect her from the darkness that threatens to engulf them.
As Rez and his mother sat down to dinner, the familiar chime of the doorbell echoed through the house, signaling the arrival of Rhez father. However, as the door creaked open, the scent of alcohol preceded his stumbling figure. Rhez's heart sank as he realized his father had returned home inebriated once again, casting a shadow over what was supposed to be a peaceful family meal.
Rez mother rises up from the chair and moves toward his father with a worried expression. "You're home? Take a seat, let's have dinner tonight"
Rez father shots her a glare "I won't be having dinner with you tonight, dear. I've already eaten with someone else."
Martha heart sank at his response "Again, William? You promised you'd try to be here more often for Rez."
He looks at her with a cold expression before continuing "I've made my choice, Martha. And it's clear where I belong now."
Martha heart shattered into a million pieces, feeling utterly betrayed and devastated by her husband's callous words. The pain etched deep lines of sorrow on her face as she struggled to comprehend the magnitude of his betrayal, a betrayal that cut through her like a knife. "But what about us? What about your son?"
His tone remained cold as he continued "I've been thinking, Martha. I don't want to live like this anymore. Behind your back, behind Rez's back. It's time for me to move on."
"You can't just walk out on us, William. We're a family."
"We were a family. But things change, Martha. I'm done pretending."
With those words, Rez father delivered a devastating blow, shattering any remaining semblance of unity within their home.
Rez's heart sank further as his father callously informed his mother that he wouldn't be joining them for dinner, expressing his lack of interest in their family and proudly declaring that he had already dined with his new girlfriend. The hurt in his mother's eyes mirrored Rez's own disappointment, deepening the chasm between them and his father.
"How could you do this to us Dad?" Rez chimes in the conversation and looking at his father
"It's not as simple as you think, Rez."
"Not simple? You've been cheating on her, lying to her face!" Rez tone raised slightly.
"I've made mistakes, okay? But you don't understand what it's like."
"No, I don't understand why you would hurt her like this. She doesn't deserve it."
"It's not about her, Rez. It's about me and what I need."
"What about what Mom needs? What about what I need? A family that's not torn apart by your selfish actions?" Pain slashes on his face
"I didn't ask for this, Rez. I didn't ask for any of this."
"But you chose it. You chose to betray Mom, to break our family apart. And now you have to live with that choice."
The tension between them hung heavy in the air, each word a painful reminder of the rift that had formed between father and son.
"Go away rez I am not in the mood to argue" William protested
"Dad please-"
He cuts him off with a loud voice "Why can't you understand I don't want to live with you and your mother anymore and I don't love Martha"
"How could you even have the audacity to say that?" Rez eyes flashes with anger as he argued
Martha who stood there watching them, flinched at their argument
"Rez go to your room" Martha said and holds his hand
"Mom please-"
Rez words were cut off by Williams voice
"If you want to know why I cheated on her so listen here kid, she's nothing compared to my new girlfriend. Your mom have lost her charm and isn't like before and my new girlfriend have everything a men desire for"
Rez eyes flashes with anger as he saw tear stricken face of his mother. He grabs the collar of his father "You have hurted my mom" he growled, as he felt the anger within him growing up
