Owen looked straight at me.
Then he burst out laughing again and I couldn't help fight the blush off my cheeks. I pulled my hand away and stared down at my lap.
"Why are you laughing at me?" I asked him, mortified.
"Nothing, I still can't get over what you said" He told me.
I was about to answer when I saw that our food had arrived. Owen had ordered some nachos and a pizza meal.
I didn't even wait for anything and straight away picked a few nachos up and popped them in my mouth. Thankfully, Owen was busy dividing the pizza in half, oblivious to my bad eating habits.
He handed me a piece of pizza while looking at it with such a proud look on his face as if he'd made it himself.
I looked down at the food and smiled to myself. It was amazing. I took a bite off the slice and I could feel the burst of flavors in my mouth.
"Why are you looking at the pizza like you just fell in love with it?" He asked and I realized he was looking at me.
"It's really delicious" I told him, while trying to finish off the bite quick so I wouldn't be talking while eating.
"Do you want some ketchup with it?" He asked me and I stared at him, unsure of what to say without being rude.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Owen said.
"Ketchup. On pizza. Are you serious?" I cried.
"I'm just kidding" He laughed and after a small almost insignificant pause said "So Alyssa, why did you get this job here?"
I looked up at him surprised at the sudden change of topic.
"I'm good at what they were offering and I would never pass up the chance to live on an island" I told him "What about you?"
"Well, you already know I used to be in the US Navy but then I started work here with the velociraptors as a research trainer. I imprinted on them when they were born and well, now I basically own them" He explained.
"What were their names again?" I asked, trying to hide the fact that I was still terrified of them.
People really close to me had been killed in the original Jurassic Park. We could never be sure what happened to them but Dr. Ian Malcolm told us he lost them with the velociraptors.
That was the main reason why my parents didn't really want me to be employed here. They feared for my safety a lot.
"Blue, Charlie, Delta and Echo" He said and I nodded.
"Cute names" I said, I didn't know what else to say to that.
Fortunately a beep interrupted our conversation and to my surprise, it wasn't Owen's phone but my own.
"Hello?" I said, I didn't recognize the number on it.
"Alyssa Parker, why are you not at your duty? You have to check for any faults in the Raptor Paddock and as soon as that's done, I'm moving you in to the Trex Paddock" Claire yelled at me.
"Sorry Claire, I thought I didn't have to do that today but I'll be right there" I said and without any further ado and risk of me getting fired, I hung up and gathered my things quickly.
"Where are you going?" Owen asked me.
"Claire called me back to work, to the raptor paddock" I told him and he got up while saying "I'll come with you"
"You don't have to" I said and he tossed some money on the table next to his unfinished food.
"No, I want to" He said and we walked out of the place together.
It took me an hour to check the paddock for any faults and thankfully I didn't find any. Owen stood next to Blue the entire time, stroking her head while I tried to stay as far away from them as possible. Telling Owen I was scared of his pets would not result in a good conversation.
Claire didn't come to check up on me so I decided that it was time for me to go to my suite since my work for the day was done.
I locked the door of the paddock and made sure it was bolted shut. Owen leaned on the fence next to me and watched me do this.
"So Alyssa" He said and I turned to look at him. He kept one of his hands up on the fence while the other was in his jeans pocket. I couldn't help but notice how well built he was.
Especially his arms.
"I was wondering...if you ever wanted to do that again sometimes. You know, have lunch with me at the park or at my bungalow or not even lunch, just dinner. Whatever you prefer" He said.
I felt my cheeks turn red and said "You mean like a date at your house?"
He chuckled and nodded "Exactly that"
"Sure" I said, without even thinking further. I smiled at him and he stepped closer to me.
He smirked and said, in a smooth tone "Or we could skip dinner too if you want, just go straight for dessert"
I almost snorted and said "Are you serious?"
"I don't know, depends. Is that something you would like?" He said, again in a low voice and I froze, raising my eyebrows.
"You're kidding right?" I said and stepped back and he burst out laughing.
"Of course I am!" He said and bent down to catch his breath. I let out a nervous laugh and he straightened up.
"Do you think I'm that kind of guy?" he asked me, with a more serious tone, although still a touch of playfulness to it.
"Of course not, I'm glad you aren't" I told him.
"Good" He nodded "Before you go home tonight though, may I show you something?"
"Show me what?" I asked.
"Being completely honest here, I have never done this with anybody ever before but you worked so seriously at the paddock today and I think you deserve this" He revealed and I wondered what he was talking about.
"Done what?" I asked him, anxious of what he was going to say.
He extended a hand to me and said "I want you to meet them. I want you to meet the raptors"
Well crap.
please review, even if its horrible!
