"Mom, Dad, I'm home!" Josephine yelled out as she gently closed her front door. Her mother could be heard from the kitchen.
"How was it honey. Did you win that prize!" Her mom replied eagerly.
Josephine struggled to find a way to respond to her mother, so she stayed silently. Now her mother was in the doorframe with a worried expression on her face.
"Did you win?" She asked again.
"Well no: but nobody won. Not yet at least" She cringed as the words left her mouth.
"What do you mean by that?" Her mother demanded. "You better not be making up an excuse."
"The Plinth prize hasn't been given out this year, because they aren't basing it off of grades. They are making us each mentor a tribute; and whoever is the best mentor, will get the prize."
Mr. Astor was now behind his wife.
"You have to talk to one of those animals? The Capitols seriously making you get close to one of them?" Her father's voice was booming and angry.
"Richard calm down, I'm sure there will be safety persuasions. " Her mother tried to prevent an argument from starting.
"You don't speak!" Her father yelled back, silencing her. "Please tell me you at least got a good tribute. Maybe one from 2 or even 4 would be good."
"I got the male from District 7." Josephine spoke softly, predicting her fathers response.
"Oh great! Now you don't have to interact with any tribute; but a tribute from one of the poorest districts. I can't even call them people, they are savages. At least some of the other districts have a little bit of class!"
"I think I can make him something. He looks strong enough and I think he really has a chance." She tried calming her fathers worry.
"Yeah that boy better win. Or else your out the house. I've had enough of you disappointing me." Josephine stayed silent, looking up at her father, before he harshly yelled "Your excused. Go to your room and start thinking up a plan for that little lumberjack."
Josephine followed her fathers orders without another word, leaving her parents alone together in the kitchen. As she closed her door, the tears started to fall. Josephine was used to her fathers yelling. She couldn't even remember a time he communicated his feelings without yelling. But it still hurt her that he didn't believe in her. All she ever wanted to do was make him proud. So she had to start planning.

That morning, Josephine woke up extra early, to get ready for the day. She spent the night thinking long and hard about what could give Treech an upper hand. She decided on meeting him at the trainstation that morning when he first arrived. She hoped that she could make him known before any of the other mentors are given a chance to introduce their own tributes.
She quickly threw on her red Academy uniform and pulled her long dark hair into a slick ponytail. She decided to put on some makeup to hopefully make herself look more presentable; although she doubted the tributes would look any better than her.
Josephine grabbed her backpack from the coat hanger, and quickly packed a small meal for Treech. It was nothing fancy, but she knew that the tributes were probably not fed the entire ride over. The more food he ate, the stronger he would be.
She gently slipped out of the front door, in an attempt to not wake her parents. She already knew the kind of reaction she would receive from them if they found out about her visiting her tribute.
Josephine was hit with the cool air and light breeze as she began her walk to the train station. It was still dark out, and the sun was just starting to rise. The dark, empty streets brought Josephine a lot of peace. For a short while, she felt a weight lift off of her shoulder. She felt her parents pressure leave her as she journeyed closer and closer to the train station.
