'Signing something you don't understand, is just signing yourself off to the devil' - Unknown

《》

It has been a week since the knowledge was dawned on Elizabeth of the marriage between her and a man named Adam. It has been a week and all that Elizabeth has done is worry.

It is rightly so that a girl so soft and gentle as such as herself, is to worry about such an arrangement because everything will change, and who knows what this man is like.

Suppose he has no morals, or sense of direction, it would mean Elizabeth would be bound to an animal and she would rather not think about that.

Thoughts such as, what if he was to hurt her? Bring no refuge? Cause her pain and anguish? Suppose he was a terrible husband, what if she was to end up alone?

It was distressing to her young mind that this could all happen, marriage in fairy tales was never this difficult, it was light, loving and full of care, and she has not even signed the documents yet.

Speaking to her father of her inquiries was not an option as he would not want to hear it and seeing how happy he was that his daughter was to do something for the business always made Elizabeth think twice about embracing him with her silly woes.

Her mother, never would she go to her, the most severe lecture she would indeed get, her mother too was in a way pleased with this arrangement, mostly because her daughter would have to move into the Graham household once the arrangement was complete.

This left Elizabeth with only Jenny, but she could not always rely on Jenny to humour her worries, her best friend had her own life and Elizabeth needs to get on with hers and if that means suffering in silence then so be it.

Herself is to never be happy, but those before her she would always try to keep them smiling.

Tucked into the corner of the in home library, golden light pours in through the Bow window that Elizabeth is sat by. The curtains drawn and the soft glow illuminates the young girl in a halo of orange.

Her blonde hair shines undimmed and twinkles whenever caught by the sun just right, her baby blue eyes flickering as she eagerly soaks in the words on the page of the book, Pride and Prejudice, her favourite.

Surrounded by corner shelves made out of brown oak, thousands upon thousands of books adorn theses shelves, old literature, new romance, action and adventure, everything and that is what makes Elizabeth feel peace, being surrounded by thousands of worlds just waiting to be explored, it is her escape, her only escape.

With feet tucked to the side on the one seater sofa, she turns the page of the book delicately and greedily takes in the words once again, reading is allowing her to forget of all her woes, books, a silent comfort that she can turn to for hours on end, they cannot turn her away, refuse her, ignore her, they remain present and that is all Elizabeth could ever ask for.
