'Every farewell comes with its regrets, regrets of ever saying hello, or regrets of having to say goodbye' - Unknown
《》
Elizabeth was laid across her king sized bed, with her bare feet dangling over the edge. She had a purple cushioned pillow resting bellow her chin and her phone pressed against her ear.
"Jenny I shall not be gone forever, this is not a permanent farewell," Elizabeth assures and stifles a laugh.
On the other end of the phone Elizabeth can just picture how fretful her friend must be, the wild look in her green eyes that resembles the wildness of her ginger hair, it's comical.
"I won't be seeing you for at least a few days, this is a goodbye," Jenny whines dramatically. This time a giggle escapes from Lizzie and she quickly says 'oops'.
"Don't laugh at me Elizabeth, a man has finally come between us, the inevitable has arrived," the churning of the coffee machine sounds from the other end of the line.
Elizabeth laughs again, "you are being so dramatic and a man will never come between us, if he dares try he shall meet the end of my fist."
"And mine, we can sucker punch him together," adds Jennifer.
"Together," Elizabeth repeats and suddenly a great sadness settles deep within her. The sound of the coffee machine fades to a dull mummer; Jennifer must have moved into the staff room.
"This man is not my husband by love but by paper, we are bound by ink and nothing more, it us who are together Jenny, me and you; forever."
There is silence on the other end of the phone and then a sniffle. Elizabeth, rather ungracefully, sits up and the purple cushion falls to the floor forgotten.
"Are you crying?" She asks.
"No," Jennifer sobs, obviously giving herself away. "I love you Lizzie, more than you will ever know."
Elizabeth herself feels tears pooling in her eyes but she must be strong and so she rids of them.
"I love you too Jenny, now get back making coffee and maybe have one yourself," Elizabeth tries her best to lighten the mood.
A sad chuckle sounds, "cheeky bugger," Jennifer chides. There is a muffled sound of someone yelling and then the line falls dead. Jennifer had to end the call.
With a sigh Elizabeth places the phone on her bed side table before standing on the fluffy rug at the foot of her bed.
A few moments later a knock sounds from her door and before Lizzie can even respond, the door flies open.
"Mother?" Lizzie says.
Stephanie saunters into the room with her heels, thankfully, being muffled by the soft fabric of the carpet. She frowns when she takes in the state of her daughter, she is displeased by the baby pink, linen dress that flows delicately outwards from Elizabeth, more so Lizzie's hair isn't exactly tame at this point in time.
