Chapter 2: the town

Sunlight poured through the curtains, shining right into my eyes. I opened my eyes slowly trying to adjust them to the light. I pushed myself up clutching my side tightly. The bed was uncomfortable. My arm felt funny, I looked at it to see needles sticking out of it. What's this called? Architecture? A...? Acupuncture? That must be it. I reached over to my arm, pulling each one out carefully.

My eyes adjusted to the light finally, the room was small, the walls a faded green.  The floors were a dark oak, the shutters matched the floor as the curtains matched the walls. A table next to the bed was covered in herbs and other things a doctor would have.

My head hurt, it felt as if my brain was banging against my skull. I stood up, making my way over to the table. Stumbling slightly, I managed to reach the table, placing the needles in my hand onto the table.

The door across the room opened, a girl walked in, probably around my age.
She had short brown hair, her clothes were plain and clearly from earth kingdom. "Hi, I'm Suki." She spoke "what's your name?"
"A..." I trailed off
My name? Name? I don't remember.
"I don't remember" I felt my heartbeat pick up in pace.
Suki stepped closer to me. I stepped back in return, eventually reaching the bed.
"It's ok, don't panic. I'm a friend" she tried calming me down. It didn't really work. I suddenly felt dizzy and sat back down on the bed. My head was spinning and I started to feel sick, my stomach rumbled. "Are you ok?" Suki asked
"Yes. I'm fine" I held my stomach with one arm and the other hand on my head.
"You must be hungry, please follow me" she motioned her arm for me to follow her. What am I doing? Why can't I remember anything?

The air was cold and crisp. She was shivering in the cold next to me.
"This is Kyoshi island. For 98 years we have stayed out of this war and we plan on staying out of it until the avatar's return" Suki explained. I nodded in response, "the avatar and kyoshi? I kind of remember that. Not sure about the war though" I replied.
Suki explained the war to me, everything, she even explained about where I was found and what happened.

We reached the food hall, it was filled with people. Most of them stopping to look at me and Suki. We sat down with our trays of food. The soup was warm and so was the rice. It didn't taste too bad. I was starving so I was practically shovelling in the food. "Slow down" Suki laughed. I slowed and sat up straight, eating carefully.

"So," Suki started "really can't remember your name?"
I shook my head, finishing my last spoonful of rice.
"Let's give you one then" Suki smiled "let's see..."
I sat patiently as she thought of a name.
"How about Kya?" She offered.
I nodded "sure, that sounds great"
It didn't seem right. Kya? It is a nice name but I don't know about it. I just said yes to please her I guess.

Walking back through the town we stopped at a building. "Come here, I want to show you something" Suki opened the sliding door. It revealed a room full of uniforms on stands, sparring mats. The walls were cream and the shelves were filled with avatar Kyoshi statues and relics.
"This is where the Kyoshi warriors train."
Suki explained.
"Wow. And you lead them?" I asked
"I do. Once you recover you should join us. It might help you get your strength back" she smiled
"I'd love that" i replied smiling softly.
"Great! Come on, I'll show you your room!" Suki held my arm and led me to a separate building.

She opened the door for me and I walked in. It's a small room with a bed and a desk. There was a small dresser on the wall next to the bed. On the bed was a pile of bags and a chest filled with clothes. "It's all we could save from the boat" Suki explained.
"Thank you" I said shyly.
"I'll let you get some rest and you can unpack. Goodnight" she smiled "I'll see you in the morning"
I nod and say goodnight.

After unpacking and trying to remember anything about myself I flopped onto my bed looking up at the ceiling. I was so exhausted after today I just fell straight asleep.
