Cold. That's all he could think of. That's all he felt.
Jack slowly opened his eyes only to find that every movement to his eyes made his head spin. Nauseous. That's new. He thought as he tried to move his head in his poor attempt to try and sit up.
Weakly he pulled his body up to sit. His body ached and without control he leaned back to press his aching back to the damp wall behind him. A proper look around him made it clear that he was in a prison cell. "Bugger" he said under his breath. "How am I going to get out o' this one?" He whispered to himself leaning his head back and taking a deep breath in to calm his speeding mind and rapidly beating heart. He couldn't die. It wasn't his time yet. He was only fourteen. He was to become a great pirate one day. Captain his own ship. Be free. Captain Jack Teague. He repeated in his mind. He decided he didn't like the last name seeing as he did have a disagreement with his supposed father. Playing with the idea of being a captain.
"Captain! Captain Jack! Capi-tan!" Jack kept repeating to himself, smiling at the fantasy of ruling the Caribbean seas. Suddenly his mind stopped, "the Cap'n!" He said, jumping up to his feet. "I have to warn 'em!" He said looking around.
Jack wasn't a stranger to getting in trouble but he certainly did not have a lot of experience with being in a prison cell and even so, he was sure there must have been more guards around and currently there were none there. He was on his own and who's to say he shouldn't try and get away? So he put his brain to work. Trying different things to break out. None of which really worked. The only outcome was bruising to his arms from the number of times he had thrown his body at the cell's door in a poor attempt to break the hinges.
His tired body slumped back to the wall behind him as he slid down to the ground, giving up and accepting his and the captain's fate. Taking a deep breath in, Jack closed his eyes and silently prayed for forgiveness from the kind Captain. He didn't really believe in any God despite his Christian upbringing but still he looked up to whoever was up there and prayed. For forgiveness or a way to escape certain death, which one, he wasn't sure himself.
But no hope is truly lost. Not in Jack's world. His life has proven to be a string of lucky events. He truly believed that Lady Luck was on his side, one way or another he always got lucky. This can be the only explanation to how he is alive and well after all the trouble he keeps on getting himself into. He always somehow finds a way out, and this time luckily was not different as he heard two set of steps running down the stairs leading to his prison cell.
"Jack? You in here boy?" Young Mister Turner called out to him.
"Mister Turner?" Jack asked, jumping to his feet looking at the young man. Behind him only a few short steps back was a young girl. Her dark brown hair framed her face. Her flushed cheeks were proof of running from someone or something. Her eyes were alert, bright and beautiful. Brown, much like his eyes but there was a certain fear in them that made his heart shake; and so he knew that this girl, as brave as she may seem, has seen and experienced things that no thirteen year old should experience. He knew, from the sadness on her face, that her parents were not as lucky as she was. He knew that all hope was lost for the kind capitan; so Jack promised the man to protect his daughter. Keep her safe just as he had done for him.
