There are two kinds of people in this unfair world.

Firstly, are those born lucky.

Individuals like Rengoku Kyojuro. Those who have two warm and loving parents. Those who are strong both physically and mentally. Those with the determination to keep on pushing onwards regardless of what those around them believe.

It is believed by Rengoku that it is the duty of those born lucky to help the less fortunate. Those who were not born lucky but rather lucky to be born.

While a rather heroic notion it should be noted that jumping head first into danger for others is not a requirement nor an expectation. It is not something one should force themselves to do while dragging their feet. It is something that must be done wholeheartedly and of no ill or malice intent.

Those lucky to be born deserve to be protected by those born lucky.

Everyone, in this world and the next, deserves to be helped and protected.

Simply being born is enough to make someone deserving of a good life. But deserving a good life is not enough to be owed one. Simply deserving a good life is a far cry from being able to demand something from another.

In fact, in this unfair world, Rengoku believed that nothing should ever be demanded of another. That everything one does for the sake of others should always be done wholeheartedly. Rengoku believed that it should be a natural instinct for those born lucky to help those lucky to be born.

People like you.

Those who were born weak and frail. Those who struggled to stand on their own feet and stumbled when getting out of bed. Those who lived in the darkness and carried burdens that one should never have to shoulder alone.

You weren't weak and you had never been weak. But you had always been someone that needed to be protected. It was neither because you were a woman or incapable of taking care of yourself. It was because Rengoku believed you deserved so much more than a life in this unfair world.

It was because you were, and always would be, far too kind for this world.

Maybe his views were biased and skewed.

He had loved you, afterall. He loved you very much.

He treasured what you had to say and each of his moments with you. In fact, he remembers the exact moment when he had known he had fallen in love with you.

You once sat alone in a field of weeds.

The weather was rarely warm and when it was Rengoku could always count on it not lasting. Personally, Rengoku never really cared all too much about the weather. He wasn't inclined towards a particular season.

All the seasons had something to enjoy about them.

Today in particular, Rengoku found himself greatly enjoying the sunlight.

It was a rare day off for him and he wanted to make the most of it before heading off on his next journey. Days off were rare and often happened when Rengoku was sick or injured. Not that he got sick very often, but it was rather inevitable. The run was bright and pleasant today. Its warmth upon Rengoku's skin was a euphoric feeling and left him feeling energized.

With the intent of stretching his legs out, Rengoku wandered past the borders of his own home and towards that of the other Pillars. Most of the pillars lived in nice homes provided by the Ubuyashiki family. While Demon Slayers weren't paid they were often compensated through other means.
