Dabi walked out through the back door, leaning against the wall as he watched the boy take swings at a tree. Himiko had let him borrow some of her knives so he could learn to use them properly so he wasn't useless when it came to combat. Since they had lost Bakugou, (Y/n) was in the backyard training for hours on end daily. Dabi could see the improvements, but also saw that he was overworking himself. When (Y/n) delivered a final swing at the tree and kicked it over, Dabi approached them. "I think that's enough deforestation for today," he said, looking around at the newly fallen trees before him. (Y/n) shook his head and panted for a moment. Once he caught his breath, he looked to Dabi.

"No. I've only got six down, and I told myself I'd do eight today." Dabi sighed.

"You still have to drag them to your pile as well. You're doing serious damage to your body. You need to relax and take a good, long nap. I'll take care of the trees. Go drink some water and take a nap. I'll wake you up with something to eat. Anything you want in particular?" (Y/n) shrugged, looking back to the trees.

"It just feels wrong to leave them here. I need to keep training. I need to do better so I don't make any more mistakes." Dabi smiled softly.

"Mistakes are gonna happen. But you won't make any that'll kill you. I'll make sure of that," he said. (Y/n) chuckled

"Awe, you care," he said, smiling at Dabi, who looked away curtly.

"As if. You're just being stupid, and I can't stand by and watch you destroy yourself this way. None of it was your fault. You gotta get over yourself. Also, it's almost time to change your bandages," Dabi said, glancing at (Y/n)'s left hand which was covered in thick bandages. "Has Himiko let you look at it yet?" (Y/n) frowned and shook his head.

"She said it was bad." Dabi nodded.

"It is. But it'll heal. You'll have countless fights you lose, and you'll have countless scars. But you cannot let them take control of your conscience. I thought you said she was in the past."

"She is in the past. I won't hesitate the next time I see her," he said, punching the most recently fallen tree before him with his good hand. The bark shattered beneath the force.

"You won't see her again. I won't allow it." (Y/n) whipped his head to Dabi, shock in his eyes.

"What are you talking about?" Dabi crossed his arms and sighed.

"Actions fueled by anger will get you nowhere. You'll do something you'll regret later. If there is ever an encounter with her, I am holding you back and letting Himiko take her," Dabi explained. (Y/n) let out an exasperated sigh, kicking the tree and turning on his heel. He stormed into the house, shoving Dabi on the way in. Dabi grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him back. "Understood?" He said, looking (Y/n) dead in the eye. (Y/n) rolled his eyes, attempting to push him away, but Dabi pulled him closer. He shoved his forehead against his. "(Y/n). Do you understand?" (Y/n), flushed at their closeness, quietly hummed and nodded. Dabi smirked, leaning into his ear. "Good boy." (Y/n) quietly whimpered at the whisper and Dabi let him go. "Wow, that really got you flustered, huh?" (Y/n) growled, shoving him and walking inside.

"Fuck you," he muttered on his way in. Himiko met him in the living room with a wide smile.

"Hey! I think it's time for you to see your hand... Dabi said he was gonna talk to you about it today, so I'm assuming he already did," she said.

"What, the bullshit about scars and mistakes?" She nodded with a frown.

"It's not 'bullshit', (Y/n). It's the truth, y'know." (Y/n) scoffed at her words.

"Not really. He's one to talk about not acting out of anger. I can smell the anger issues from a country away," he said. She sighed.

"Then, in good conscience, I can't let you see what's under this," she said, taking (Y/n)'s bandaged hand into her own.
