...Present...

"How long do you plan on staying with me?" Gabriel asked.

"Three weeks and you already want to kick me out," Marcus smiled.

"If I wanted to kick you out, I would have. Maybe you'd prefer your own place? Just so you can bathe in peace?" Gabriel grinned.

"How's the city's reconstruction going?" Marcus changed the subject.

"Well," Gabriel sighed.

"Tired?"

"Very. I have a lot on my mind, but I have good support, so it's easier." Gabriel crossed his arms over his chest. "Who wants to kill you, Marcus, and why?" he asked seriously.

"My old boss," Marcus replied coldly. "The invitation I arranged for Luka to enter illegal fights brought back old wounds," he smirked.

"How do you suggest we deal with it?"

"We deal with it, oh no little brother, I handle my own problems," he said sharply.

"Marcus, you're not alone anymore."

He avoided eye contact.

"Marcus, please, look at me."

"I'm not part of a pack and I don't know how to function in a pack!" he growled.

"Oh God!" Gabriel's eyes widened.

"What now?" Marcus asked rudely.

"You never wanted to lead a pack, did you? Tell me the truth, Marcus!" Gabriel ordered.

Marcus remained silent. "Ha, ha, ha..." Gabriel burst into laughter. "How did I not notice this before? Introverted, alpha dominant, successful, but extremely independent."

Marcus just snorted, completely disinterested.

"You're a sigma!" he exclaimed excitedly.

"Stop it, I'll smack you!" he threatened.

"Will you at least tell me what your plan is?"

"I told you, I'll kill him, but before that, he has to suffer a little," he smirked wickedly. He stood up from the chair.

"Marcus?"

"Yes?"

"Happy birthday, brother," Gabriel smiled at him.

Sabrina sat in her office sorting out paperwork. It was the end of the day. The day had been long. Her phone rang.

Tonight at 8, the party at the Green starts. We'll pick you up at 7:30.

I don't know. I'm tired. The day has been long.

Don't be silly, where's your youth?

What kind of party?

Does it matter?

You should slow down a bit.

I'll slow down when I'm so fat that I can't move anymore.

Amanda, you might get sick!

It's a good thing I'll have my doctor by my side then. Come on, when was the last time you relaxed?

Sabrina sighed. She thought for a moment.

I can't remember

At 7:30, be ready and wear something sexy!

I don't have anything sexy.
