Trying to sleep after the events from the last night was harder then I imagined. I am never rude to anyone and yet I allowed myself to be rattled by Theo and making me be the bad guy.
"Layla, are you even listening?", Jennie says while shoving eggs in her mouth and scanning through the Olympic website for our photos
"Yea, yea", I say playing with my food, "The photos are great, everything is great"
The photos are the last thing on my mind. What if he goes to my coach or worse, what if he goes the entire Volleyball board and orders them to never have Leo on the team. Yesterday, I maybe killed our two careers just cuz of my little anger.
Putting down her iPad, Jennie puts her attention to me, "What's wrong?"
Still looking at my plate, "Nothing", I try to not sound so depressed but failing
Her hand appears next to mine as she takes the fork from my hand, making me look at her, "Tell me what's bothering you"
I try to say dismiss her but she shakes her head and continues, "Don't deny it. You slept in, now you don't have an appetite and you didn't even look at the games or the report from yesterday's training. Something is on your mind and it shows"
Breathing out I prepare myself to tell her but then a high pitch voice, comes our way, "Girls, come on. The practice is beginning", Gina says waiting for as at the cafeteria doors
Next to me Jennies whispers as we walk to Gina, "Promise to tell me later", linking our arms together
"Sure, later", is all I say
At the hall that we share with the girls volleyball team, our both teams are here. They look quite warmed up from what I can see. The two courts are divided by a doubled net, from the roof to the ground. Only thing that is not divided are the spectators seats that go all across left side of our long hall. On the right side where the entrance is big windows are there giving us the beautiful light from the sun.
"Layla, do you have a report from yesterday?", Melissa asks as I am putting on my simple black t for today
Looking in my bag, I find everything that I wrote after practice which is not a lot, "Here. I didn't have a lot of time but I stated everything that was important", I say as I give her the report
Taking only 3 papers from me, Melissa says, "Layla, you don't have to push yourself that much. I only take your reports because you take them every time but we do have a team that does that as their job. There is no pressure"
Nodding and smiling a little, "I know but I do like have all of my thoughts on a paper", I say to her
And that is true. I know I am not playing but this is my way of contributing to the team. It makes me feel proud when they understand my vision or when couch tells them how to play based on my notes.
"Good", she says, "Now go, you are on the blue team today"
"Nice", I say exiting because that means I am playing with Jennie
As I make my way to them, Melissa says, "But you are playing on 2 today"
Looking at her weird, because my position is 2, she continues, "2 on the starting 5"
All of the color that I had on my face, is now washed away as I feel cold all over my body, "But blue is the second team", I say praying she got it wrong
"Yes, but you will replace me and today they will be red", Melissa says as she read my report
"Are you sure?", I say trying to calm myself down
