Kad rubbed his eyes and sat up in his bed. He was on the top bunk of a double bunk bed. He crawled over to the ladder and slid down. Echoy'la was still asleep in the bottom bunk and rolled over. Kad grinned and walked over to a dresser. He pulled his clothes out of the bottom drawer and slipped into them. He knelt and started doing stretches. Echoy'la grunted and sat up.
"Jate vaar'tur, ner vod." Kad said in between a round of squats.
"Jate vaar'tur," Echoy'la replied as he yawned. He slipped into his clothes and joined Kad in the morning exercises. Somebody outside rapped on the door, and Kad sprung out of his squat and sprinted past an armour stand toward the door, his hand brushing his armour slightly. He pressed a button on the wall by the door, and the door swished open. Kar stood in the hall, her black and silver armour glistening in the lights. Kad embraced her and asked, "what's up, vod'ika?"
"Oh, the usual, including the fact that breakfast is almost ready, and if you don't hurry, we'll be done eating and there won't be any for you," she said, a grin appearing on her face. She squeezed Kad's arm and walked away. Kad sprinted over to his armour, slipped the chest plate over his head, tightened it, clipped on his leg armour, pulled his gauntlets over his hands, and lastly slipped his feet into his boots. Echoy'la did the same. They ran out the door and down the hallway. It had been only a few months since the clan had been formed, and they had already built a fortress with air-defence turbolasers and other defences. They reached the dining room just as the food was being served on the table. Opakki stood at the head of the table, with her thumbs hooked on her belt.
"Didn't you know it's rude to come to the dinner table sweaty?" she asked sarcastically, brushing a strand of blue and purple hair behind her ear. Her armour matched her hair; it had blue and purple streaks across a silver background. She sat down in one of the chairs beside the long, wroshyr table and laid her hands on the table. Kad walked over to the head of the table, pulled the ornate chair slightly away from the table, and slid into it. The chair had no cushioning but was very comfortable. Kar, Bes'laar and Darra brought the food to the table and slid the platters across the table into their correct locations. The others slowly made their way into the dining room and took their seats. After they had all gathered, Kad stood and raised his glass.
"Munit Oyacyr Manda'yaim bal Nehutyc!" Glasses clinked all across the table and everyone began piling food onto their plates and eating. Kad sat down, smiling. His earpiece began buzzing. He put his hand up to his ear and clicked a button on the piece to accept the call.
"Kad'la Kal Fett? This is Sev Vizsla of the New Death Watch. We are looking for some help against some ge'hutuun invading our land and thought you would be the best person to call. Meet me and my vode at 1300 at the Oyu'baat tomorrow afternoon for more information." The voice stopped and the voice channel was cut. Kad clicked the button on his earpiece again and rolled his eyes. Brushing the call out of his mind, he lifted a slab of meat from his plate with his knife and shoved it into his mouth. The aroma lifted to his nose and made his eyes water.
