RIIIIINNING RIIIIIINNNG

"Hey!" Chris answered, tiredly.

"Hey, babe! Just checking in. You remembered to take your meds? Did the rub?" Street asked in a hurry, while battling the noises in the background.

"Seriously? What am I? Five?" she asked annoyed, letting out a soft chuckle.

Street snorted, then answered, "Aw, c'mon! I'm calling coz I care."

"Yeeeees." she replied tiredly.

"Good...um..." he wondered off, while noises continued in the background. "Did your cousin helped you out to take a shower?"

"Yeah."

"Great." he answered tiredly, still battling the sounds in the background.

"Bae, stop the chit chat." she snapped annoyed. "What is it? Everything ok?"

"Um..." he paused, while the noises intensified. "Listen, I'm sorry. You think you could stay with your cousin for a bit more? Something came up at work and I might be pulling an all nighter. My team is stuck with an urgent case." he paused, "I'm sorry, I know I said-"

"It's ok. Do what you gotta do. I'm fine." she interrupted, with a certain tone of relief.

"You sure? I promise, when I get home I'll take care of you."

"Street, relax. It's just a sprain. I'll get the cast on tomorrow. It's not the end of the world!" she responded jokingly. "I'm sure I'll survive!"

"Well, to tell you the truth, I wish I was cuddled with you. My back is killing me!"

"Take something for the pain and buck up! You wanted a team? You got it! Now, go! Get it done, sergeant! I'll see you when you get home!"

"Boss!" called a voice in the background.

He turned, then nodded silently. "Gotta go. Take care. Love you"

Sigh. Street would love nothing more than a hot bath and to be in bed with his girl. Instead he was gimpy, with a terrible pain that shot from his lower back all the way up his shoulders and still had to deal with a pesky suspects. The night was going to be veeery long!

After a string of burglaries and thefts to several stores in the busiest and most tourist-visited parts of Long Beach, including the shopping district and the most popular beach site, things were heated. A few hours ago, an incident broke out with police exchanging intense fire. Molotov cocktails were also thrown at cop cars and civilians ended up injured in foot and car chases.

The whole thing started a few days prior, when the mayor made the announcement about a more strict policy against store thefts. The new measure attempted to defend stores and avoid more closures of shops in town. However, the changes were not taken lightly by civilians, with several groups complaining these meant more money in the pockets of big corporations. So, gang robberies and violence in the streets have seen a spike in the last 48 hours, with the latest being the most brutal.

As a result, LBPD SWAT was called to provide backup and apprehend suspects. Street led his team and fortunately they were able to complete the mission. The problem for him was the amount of physical force it required, not to mention the intense foot chase to gather two very fast runners. To make matters worse, one of his officers was badly injured but no one knows the details on what exactly happened.

So, with tired bodies -but determined minds- the officers returned to the station with two of the detained robbers for further questioning. Police, SWAT and other units were to work collaboratively to find out what had happened and who was directly responsible for the injured officer.
