The smell of freshly made popcorn permeated every inch of the apartment. The night was chilly, and the young lady had just finished a long hot bath. Just what the doctor ordered after a long week of hard work!
Her new job was interesting, but Chris was still learning the ropes. It had been an intensive week of training, practice calls and meetings. So, this Friday night, all she wanted to do was to enjoy leftover pizza from last night and a bowlful of salted caramel popcorn, taking full advantage of a night long ghost movies' marathon.
PEEP PEEEP
The microwave sounded loud among the silence of the place, as she approached from the bathroom, with her head wrapped up in a towel and her body with another. She took out the bowl carefully, placed the slices of pizza in before heading back to put on some jamies. Once the door of the appliance was closed, she turned and glanced at the time on the oven clock and frowned.
Sigh. "He's late. Again." she said out loud, frowning surprised.
She turned to the door, hoping her boyfriend would suddenly pop in, but to no avail. Nothing. Silence.
"Oh! Well." she said shrugging her shoulders.
She placed the bowl of popcorn next to the only four slices left from last night's dinner. After thinking for a second, she decided to wait for him to reheat, when he eventually made it home. So, she placed them back in the fridge and made her way back to the bathroom, wondering why Street was so late. It was already two hours past end of shift. Besides, he was the one that proposed the marathon in the first place!
By the time she was ready, she grabbed the caramel and salt from the pantry and mixed it up with the popcorn. Later, she retrieved the slices from the microwave, picked up the popcorn bowl and went to the fridge for a bottle of beer. She kept glancing at the door. Nothing.
Sigh. She got everything ready on the living room table, set herself down on the sofa and turned on the TV. As she settled on a channel, she heard the lock on the door...
SQQQEEEAAAKKKK
"Hey!" she greeted with a grin.
"Hey!" he greeted, placing his keys down.
SLAM
She popped a handful of popcorn as the man closed the door behind him.
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
Street removed his jacket and boots, shoving them next to the front door. He sniffed dramatically and grinned, seeming to approve the menu for tonight. He took slow steps towards her until he settled next to her on the coach.
"How was your day?" she asked.
"You wont believe it!" he said with a smile.
"Uh...ok?" she answered skeptically, taking in another mouthful.
"Matter of fact-" he said grabbing the remote from her hand and hitting a key on it.
CLICK
The tv went blank, as so did she. "Street, what the hell? Movie was about to start!"
She frowned hard at him, noticing his great effort to hold in a laugh. She leaned forward, trying to get a better view of him, placing down the bowl of popcorn in the process.
"What?" she asked.
"Today- I mean-I- Today- Like..." he couldn't help but to stutter! Between holding back laughter and shaking his head. Chris was bewildered.
