Regina "Reggie" Kwon, heiress of Kwon Energy and Motors, sat across from me with a pleasant smile on her face. It didn't match the empty gaze in her eyes or the tense posture she displayed in her designer dress. Nonetheless, the flawless Reggie still beautiful as ever and the very uncaring bitch I knew her to be.
I, on the other hand, sat back in the hard chair in a daze. If someone was to describe the scene, they would probably say I was like a typical anime boy with a blue face and ghost floating out of his mouth with his head flopped back. As all the sounds of the cafe, a very public place of her choosing, faded to the background, the bitch looked very smug -- pleased with herself at the bomb of apocalyptic proportions she dropped on my head.
The phrase "I had a baby" bounced around in my head as I tried to process it in the gray matter between my ears.
Other words like "others not as good" and "kept me satisfied" and "golden retriever" and "DNA test" and "contract and payment" all flew over my head, but trinkled in my ears like a fine mist in the middle of spring. My gaze shifted from her when she made a motion and a man in a suit carried in a little bassinette. The black suit carried the white carrier with a soft pink blanket inside. I assumed the baby was a girl due to the color.
The man took a seat to the left of Reggie. I figured this was her new victim.. I meant boyfriend. But Reggie scoffed at the idea and laughed at my stupidity. Really laughed, like my assumption was utterly ridiculous. He was well dressed and alright in his looks and neat in his appearance - this really summed up her type. Hell, I was her type.. at one time.
'Mr. Blacksted,' he began flatly, giving me a short sharp bow as he sat, 'I am Park Jun-gi, legal counsel for Miss Kwon.'
From under the table, the man pulled a briefcase and slid a stack of papers across the table. The front cover had 보호자 동의 (Parental Agreement) but in English, in smaller print, it read "Baby Daddy Contract."
I huffed as I read that and flicked my eyes up toward the cold woman.. the fucking love -- who I thought was the love of my life. Mr. Park's voice drew my gaze over to his.
'The infant is nearly two weeks postpartum and has yet to be named. Miss Kwon is more than happy to compensate you for your acceptance of this child as well as your silence.'
With long arms, Mr. Park reached across the table and flipped the documents open to a flagged page. I skimmed it as he explained, the payment outline. The number on the page equated to 5 million USD.
My eyes were the size of saucers the moment they moved toward hers. -Are you fucking KIDDING me?!-
Reggie was smiling her sinister smile as Mr. Park spoke. Slowly, her red lips pressed into a flat line as she shrugged. 'I never pegged you for the greedy type, Lucas. Mr. Park can --'
