Surviving Summer (original story)

CHPT 2: Riley Cordes

It's the first day of summer. 

Thalia wakes up in the late morning to a million or two texts in their friend group chat. She opened her phone and looked at all the messages. The one that popped out to her was
"Yo Thali, pool party, my house 1, ya coming?" from Ryan, Thalia laughed at his texting style, she thought that a 17-year-old should be able to text better than that, but again he was Ryan. She replied in a lot more mature manner. "Sure dude, see u then, btw who's going?" He replied quickly which was a bit weird of him but Thalia didn't think much of it. "Ummmmm, our whole friend group duh, Will, a few of Ro's sibs, and idk who else, see u there!" The exclamation mark was also very weird for Ryan, he was usually not like that but Thalia just assumed that he was excited for his pool party. She said bye to Ryan who for some reason had to immediately leave. 

The rest of her day passed quickly, her friends Joy, Valeriia, and Brooklynn came over for some 'girl time' before Ryan's craziness. They talked for hours, somehow not mentioning Rohan or Cole once! Brooklynn did talk about Marquez, her longtime boyfriend quite a few times, but then again that's normal news for Brooklynn. Brooklynn had talked about Marquez nonstop in grades 6, 7, and 8 until finally for the sake of all of her friends he asked her to become his girlfriend.

12:30 rolled around soon enough and Thalia drove them all to Ryan's house in her car. They arrived first and literally bumped into Ryan walking into his backyard. Ryan brushed off his shoulder and said "sup girl" to Thalia ignoring Brooklynn, Valeriia, and Joy. Brooklynn turned to Joy and whispered something into her ear, which made them both laugh. Thalia, Brooklynn, Joy, and Ryan headed to the table where all the food was to have a bite to eat.

A few minutes later Rohan walked in holding hands with a girl who looked a lot like him. The girl had a smile on her face, dark blond wavy hair, and blue eyes. Thalia was confused about who in the world this new girl was, she had never seen her before. She doubted that this girl was Rohan's new girlfriend but who knows? They walked up to Thalia, Brookie, Valeriia, Joy, and Ryan. Rohan said "Hi guys! This is Riley my....... twin sister." "Um dude, you have a twin sister?" Ryan said what was on the mind of everyone there. Rohan was about to reply when he was interrupted by the rest of the friend group arriving. Lucas, Cole, George, Valeriia, Autumn, Hayat, Katie, Sylvie and....... Will.

"Will!" Rohan yelled and ran to tackle his friend, acting like a little kid. Rohan, Will, and the rest of them walked back to where Brooklynn, Valeriia, Thalia, Joy, and Riley were still standing. "Hi, guys," Will said as kind as ever. "Who's this," He said gesturing to Riley. "That's my twin sister Riley" explained Rohan. "Wait." Yelled Lucas "You have a sister?" The rest of the group looked equally as surprised. "As a matter of fact, I do, I will explain this all in a minute after I tackle Will some more." Will looked over at Autumn who was standing next to Katie and Sylvie and shook his head while smiling. Rohan tackled Will a bit more then finally calmed down and started to act normal again. "I've only been in Vancouver for one year, sheesh" Will yelled to Rohan. "Why are you so excited to see me?" Rohan chose not to respond to Will's question and chose to explain about Riley. "So I'm assuming you guys all want to know about Riley, right?" Everyone nodded their heads. "Riley is my twin sister and has been living in England as an exchange student since grade 3, the same time I moved here." "Oh, that makes a lot more sense." Said, Katie.

All the girls headed to the deck to talk for a bit before going swimming while the boys spent their time using each other in Ryan's pool. "So," asked Autumn "What's England like, where in England were you, and why, just why did Rohan keep you a secret?" "Um, England is very nice, I lived just in the countryside of London and I really don't know why Rohan, Kaeus, Thayden, Joah, and Cayen keep me a secret," Riley spoke with a bit of a British accent, which made sense, she had been living in England for about 8 years. Rohan, Will, Lucas, Ryan, and George ran up to the girls, dripping wet, Rohan calmly asked Riley and the others avoiding Thalia, "Are you girls coming swimming?" "Yup, just give us a minute Ro," Riley says. "Just wondering, who here is a swiftie?" All at once, Thalia, Autumn, Sylvie, and Katie jumped up and yelled "I am!!!" "I thought so, Ro told me that as well so I brought you guys a few things from the Eras Tour Paris." Riley handed all the Swifties different phone cases. All the girls jumped up and yelled in delight. "How in the world did you know?" exclaimed Thalia."I asked Ro what phones you had so I could make sure I had the right one" Thalia got a 'Torchered Poets Department' case, Autumn got a phone case with the quote "Sorry the old Taylor can't come to the phone" from Taylor's song 'Look what you made me do'. Sylvie got a Folklore case and finally, Katie got a case with the eras tour collage on it.

The girls all immediately changed their old phone cases to the new ones and thanked Riley. Then the girls all put down their phones, took off their clothes, and jumped into Ryan's pool holding hands. George screamed in rage at the fact of getting splashed by 9 girls. The day quickly turned into a disaster of yelling, laughing, and falling into pools. Autumn pulled all the girls except for Riley aside, Riley was arguing with George and Lucas about who knows what. "So what do you guys think of Riley joining our friend group? She seems to fit in super well" At once the girls agreed. "So it's official, Riley is now a part of us, Riley come here for a second." Riley and the boys swam over to where Arya, Brooklynn, Joy, Hayat, Valeriia, Thalia, Sylvie, and Katie were standing. "Do you want to join our friend group, assuming it's ok with Rohan and the others?" Riley looked over at Rohan, Ryan, Will, Lucas, George, and Cole who all nodded their heads in unison. "Yes, that would be amazing, thank you." The whole group, now finally complete jumped into the pool.

The day passed quickly until the sun started to set. "Well, that was fun guys, thanks for having me." Riley said, "I guess me and Ro have to go now though, bye." The group all waved goodbye and Rohan waved back to all of them except for Will who got the special treatment, getting tackled once more. Rohan and Riley calmly left Ryan's house and went next door to their own. The rest of the group hung out for about an hour till it really was time to go. The group left in pairs, as usual. The usual pairs were Lucas and George cause they live close to each other, Katie and Sylvie for the same reason,  as well as Brooklynn, Joy, and also Cole cause he loves to spend as much time with Joy. Thalia and Arya and now Will and finally  Valeriia and Hayat. Thalia drove Autumn and Will home,  talking about the day the whole drive home.

Thalia arrived home and headed to her room to scroll on her phone for a bit before going to bed. She thought the day had been an overall success, it wasn't too awkward between her and Rohan thank goodness, she was surprised that Rohan had never told her about Riley though. She also thought that Will being there was pretty cool, Thalia had a feeling something was happening between Autumn and Will though but who knows?

Thalia watched a bit of a TV show, Gilmore Girls an all-time fav until late at night, turned off her light, and fell asleep.

The part where the girls talk about letting Riley into their group is actually something that happened to me a few days ago, my friend group let someone new in. It's going amazing and the new girl (Ava) adds a lot to the group.  By the way, the pic at the top is what I imagine Riley to look like. Anyways comment your ideas, thoughts and changes I should make, as usual.<3
