"Send more people after her..." Silco’s voice is sharp, cold as steel, his eyes never lifting from the pile of papers before him. The silence presses down, thick and unyielding.
"Silco... but we’ve already sent plenty after her—"
"Silent, Sevika." The words cut through the air like a blade, and his eyes finally flick to her, the irritation clear in the flicker of his gaze. "I don’t recall asking for your nonsense."
Sevika’s jaw tightens, her teeth grinding as she lets out a slow, exasperated sigh. The tension crackles between them. She knows better than to argue further, but the truth stings like a burn—more men after Jinx is a waste. Time. Resources. The pointless pursuit of something that would end in failure. Yet she has no other way to voice it without igniting his fury.
"Boss, you’re going to run us out of enforcers at this rate." The words spill out before she can stop them, but she presses on, heart hammering. "I get it. We need her alive. But you can’t keep sending—"
"Have you not heard me already?" His voice is an icy whip, and the threat lingers in the air like smoke. "I said go and—"
Before the words can fully form, the door flies open, and in the doorway stands a figure—no, a shadow. A silhouette. One that burns into the room with the flicker of neon pink eyes and hair the color of the ocean, long blue braids cascading like a storm.
"Jinx—"
Silco’s words die in his throat, his mouth snapping shut. His gaze locks onto her, wide-eyed, shock crackling through his veins. His annoyance vanishes in an instant, replaced by a look that’s almost... genuine. A surprised silence holds the room.
And Sevika? She’s frozen, a sudden rush of fury flooding her veins, her heart pounding in her chest. No sign of Jinx since the firelight hideout—no sign, and then there she was, standing barely ten feet away, like a shadow that slipped through their fingers.
"Where the hell have you been, brat?!" Sevika spits out, her voice like venom, and in a flash, her hand is around Jinx’s wrist, the grip hard and unforgiving, like she wants to crush something inside her.
The word brat cuts deep—Jinx can feel it, searing beneath her skin, but she won’t flinch. She can’t. Not with Sevika, not with that raw, bloodthirsty look in her eyes. She’d rather die than show weakness to her.
"No need to grab me so rough there, sweetie," Jinx purrs back, a slow, wicked smirk stretching across her face, eyes locked with Sevika’s, unblinking. She won’t let this bitch see her falter.
Before Sevika can snap back, Silco’s voice slithers through the tension, cold and sharp, like a blade parting the storm.
"Let go of her arm, Sevika. And leave us alone."
The words barely register for Sevika as the fury bubbles, a dangerous tension coiling tighter inside her, but there’s no choice. She releases Jinx’s wrist with a hiss, the force of it snapping like a whip through the air. The look she gives Jinx is lethal, pure hatred rolling off her like heat. But still, there’s nothing more to do. She steps back, clenched jaw, seething, knowing the last thing she needs right now is to piss Silco off more.
Jinx? She watches it all like a game, a twisted little smirk curling up as she lingers on Sevika’s hate-filled gaze, soaking in the discomfort. The fun isn't over yet. Her attention flickers toward Silco, finally breaking her stare.
"As you wish, Boss," she says, voice dripping with mischief, then spins on her heel, letting her words hang heavy in the air like smoke before she walks out, leaving them behind.
