I felt like my heart was about to burst. I cannot even begin to describe how I feel. My mind had been troubled since Father announced that the time had come to meet the Prince from the house of Aaromons.  And on the morrow, I will be traveling to meet him.

I remembered that night well. King Edgar from the House of Aaromons had sent a word to my Father, formally inviting me to the 17th name day of his son, Prince Adair. My thoughts had wandered that evening, too many times that I hardly paid attention during my Latin lessons. The next day when Father went hunting, I sneaked out of the castle disguised as Liana, my most trusted lady-in-waiting. Liana couldn't protest anymore, as often most evenings were spent exploring outside the castle undetected. It was my most joyous times, feeling the freedom from the strict confinement of the castle and this bedchamber.

I have heard some talks from the town folks who had known someone who had met the Prince. They said that he is as handsome as he is crude. Often screaming at people for menial mistakes.

I stared at myself in the mirror, feeling a bit pitiful at my fate. I shuddered at the thought that I might be marrying a monstre.

My lady-in-waiting disrupted my contemplation. "Princess Carreen, the Queen is here to see you."

"Thank you, Liana." I stood up and dragged my dressing gown to see Mother. I had informed her, too many times that there is no need to announce her visit, she insists still in doing so.

"Carreen, my lovely princess." Even with her silk dressing gown she looked regal. It was hard not to admire her. With her every step, her beauty radiated. My pride would always flourish when someone would tell me that I look like her. I watched her closely, her long straight light brown hair cascaded past her shoulders all the way to her hips and her white skin seemed to illuminate brighter than my lampe in the bedchamber. A wide smile appeared on her lips, her blue eyes stared back at me.

"Mother, this is a rather late visit," I informed her.

"I wanted to see you. Am I not allowed to see my only daughter?" She pulled me closer and I felt her hold tightened on me.

"You know what I mean, Mother." I tell her as soon as she released me from her grasp.

"Let me look at you?" Her eye glistened for a moment.

"Please, don't start crying on me. I'm not dying."

She released a long sigh. "You're growing right before my eyes and yet I am unable to believe it. I have never imagine this day will come too soon. It felt as if it was only yesterday when your Father informed me of this pact with the King of Aaromons. But here we are, in mere number of days, you will see the boy that you will marry."

I felt my hair raised on my entire body and I shivered at the thought of marrying someone I hardly know. Someone that I haven't even met, not once in my almost sixteen years of existence. Perhaps Father is mistaken. Perhaps the King from the highest mountain peak had changed his mind.
