One Year later: June 9th 2025 - 2 Days Before The Wedding
Alex's Point Of View
"Ok, Wedding License paperwork that needs to be filled out the day of, check. Dmv paperwork to be filled out once I have the copy of marriage license, check, paperwork to expedite name change on passport, check. God that's going to give me anxiety but hey, I lie, I cheat, I steal, and I get paid good money to do so, so eh I can do it. Appointments made to do all of that check. Have a silent panic attack and pretend you're perfect because that's what you do? Oh look right on time," I say to myself as I quickly scream into my pillow at abuela's house. I'm currently sitting in my old room going through paperwork and making sure everything I need to do is done and everything that will need to be done in order for me to travel is ready so it can be done as quickly as possible. "Hey Mami. It's all going to be ok. You have everything all set, your nails are done, you are freshly waxed, you have all you prescriptions filled, Mami and Abuela made all the calls and everything is good to go. We need you to get high as fuck and breathe. Come on, let's get high, eat frozen crumbl, and play some Mario Kart," Ethan says, coming in the room and hugging me.
I hug him tight. "How old are you now?" I ask. "21, Mami. I can buy my own weed and alcohol even though Abuelo and Tio's won't let me," Ethan says, pulling away and smiling. "When did I get so old, Mijo?" I ask. "Mami, you are only six years older than me. You aren't old. How much sleep have you gotten? You don't look like shit but you have that sleep deprived look on you," He says. "What time is it?" I ask. "1pm," He says. "Oh, sleep? What's that? Last time I woke up was 9 am yesterday," I say. "9am yesterday?! Mami, you need to rest. You get Married Wednesday, you need to be well hydrated and well rested, and well fed. Have you eaten?" He asks. "No, but i'll eat leftovers," I say. "We finished the leftovers for dinner last night, remember. Come on, rest," He says, carefully moving the paperwork to the empty dresser in the order I have them.
"I don't need rest. I need to make sure everything is perfect. Even if something goes wrong it needs to look perfect. Rhea's plane has been delayed, I don't even know if she's going to get here in time for the wedding. I'm not upset with her, it's not her fault but I don't know what I'm going to do when i'm thinking stupid that morning. Let's face it, i'm thinking stupid now and I can't stop freaking out. I haven't eaten since dinner yesterday, or slept and i'm going out of my mind, but i'll be fine. I just need more coffee," I say, getting up. I teeter a little and hold the wall for a second. "You didn't see that. It was a work. It's supposed to make you worry," I say, waiting for the dizziness to pass and grab my 20oz coffee mug. "Mami, have you had any water? Would Step Papi be happy with you? Didn't he give you some sort of, "Stay hydrated" talk before you came here? You know he's coming over to spend today with you right?" Ethan asks.
"No, I was told if you're going to brat get it out of your system before the wedding night," I say, starting a fresh pot of coffee. "Of course he did, because he doesn't know you get quite this bad. Come on, sit," AJ says. "No, i'm fine," I say, getting dizzy again. I'm guessing AJ senses this because he picks me up and brings me to the couch. "Stay, stay. There is a surprise," Aj says. "Like what? I have to call the moving men soon to get our stuff from Florida moved out here, including my car," I say. "No, you don't. I'll explain in a second just sit there," Aj says. "Fucking make me," I say, trying to get up but couldn't get enough momentum. "I think even your body said sit there and take it like a bitch. I'd listen to your body," He says. I glare at him. "Kids stop fighting, Mami is home," I hear a familiar accent. "Rhea! Your back!" I yell. "Shh, yeah, and so is this one. Do you want to hold your new baby niece?" She asks walking into view with a beautiful little baby on her chest in a baby sling. "Please?" I ask, grabbing nearby hand sanitizer and hand sanitizing to my elbow. "It's like she knows," Rhea says. I point to Ethan. "I've practically taken care of him since birth," I say, putting pillows around my to keep me propped up for the little ones safety. Rhea puts her in my arms and I make sure to support her head and neck. A beautiful little strawberry blonde, blue eyed, little girl that looks like the perfect mix of her and Buddy. "She's beautiful. How'd you get the 50/50 mix? I need to know for future reference?" I ask. "Make sure you both thoroughly enjoy it," Rhea chuckles. "What's her name?" I ask. "Adelaide. I wanted a little bit of home with me wherever I went," She says. "Aww. Well, her new nickname is Tia's Princess, and she can't leave my arms now," I say, gently holding her tiny hand, which she then wraps around my finger tip.
