Chapter 16
“You know each other?” De’Andre asked both of us.
“No.” “You could say that.” We said at the same time.
“Right, well....Deem sit down properly, so I can drive.” I turnt around and lent my head on the window, while they spoke about the wedding, I zoned out once they started talking about the hen nights
*
“Kadeem did you hear what I said?” Damari asked.
“Huh what?” I asked while shaking my head.
“Argh Never mind.” He said while kissing his teeth. I nodded and looked out.
Lucky me...

“Leave me alone Damari.” I said as I tried to get past him.
“Ssh...Do you want De’Andre to hear?” He asked. I eventually gave in and sat down on my bed.
“Kadeem why? Why would you...why would you do that to me?” He asked while attempting to calm himself down.
“Damari please...Just leave it. You left me...” I whispered
“So now you’re whispering? And I left so I can go to my grandma’s birthday celebration...not so you can go around getting engaged. So what it takes you 4 months to find your ‘love’, the person your gonna marry?” He said while shaking his head,
“4 months?” I coughed. I might aswell tell the truth “It’s been 3 years Damari...” I cleared
“3 years? 3 years! Don’t piss me off!” He said while walking up and down the room.
“I didn’t know you where cousins...” I said, knowing that it wouldn’t make the situation any better
“Does that make it right? You’re sounding like a hoe now...Falling in love with a hoe...no thanks.” He said while standing up and kissing is teeth. “I was actually gonna propose when I got back...looks like my cousin got there first.” He laughed slightly.
“Hoe? I aint a hoe... I’m sorry...”
“Sorry? Tell that to De’Andre.” He said before walking towards the door.
“No please don’t...You can’t...please.” I begged. This weren’t the same Damari...I knew he was probably vex that’s why he was doing this.
“Fine...I won’t tell him you will.” He said while shrugging.
“No I can’t...I can’t do that to him”
“You can’t do that to him? But you could do it to him when you were doing a ting with me for the past 6 months?” He said while kissing his teeth.
“We weren’t talking...I thought we were done.” I said.
“One way or another the truth has to come out.” He said before walking out of the room. I followed behind slowly...he wouldn’t tell De’Andre...would he? We walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to see De’Andre yamming down chicken. He threw it in the bin once we walked in. He walked up to me and pecked me on my lips before asking
“What where you lots doing, took bare long?”
“Ha-ha.” I laughed off the comment and sat down with some chocolate digestives in hand.
“Hmm...Kadeem was just telling me how...” Damari started. I dropped my biscuits and looked at him with pleading eyes, begging him not to say anything. “How...she can’t wait to get married to you.” He said while smirking.
“Thank you” I mimed. He nodded. I looked at De’Andre who was just standing there grinning.
“Well of course, it is me. Come on now. Of course you would be excited you’re marrying a Jones.” He said while spudding Damari. That’s when I realised that was both Damari and De’Andre’s sure name. How did I not clock?
“Ha right...” I dished myself a plate of Jollof rice and walked into the living room to see La’Shyra knocked out on the sofa. My baby...she still doesn’t remember me. I put my food on the coffee table, picked her up and took her upstairs. I lay her down on my bed, kissed her on her forehead and made my way downstairs. I stepped into the living room and felt like knocking someone out.
“What do you take this for? I’m giving you to the count of 5 if it’s not down I will hurt you.” I said through gritted teeth. I looked over at Damari who was sitting there about to eat a handful of my Jollof rice. “5, 4, 3...” He slowly picked up my chicken, without losing eye contact. That was it for me. I ran up to him and jumped on his back. I started hitting him. Punching, kicking all sorts. All I could hear was De’Andre’s dirty cackle, or what he likes to call a laugh. Somehow I found myself on the front part of Damari’s upper torso. I slowly slid off hit him and went to re heat my food.

I sat there on my laptop, updating my music and just talking to people I hadn’t spoken to in about 5 years.
“GOAAAAAAAAL!” I looked over at De’Andre and Damari, to see them jumping up and down. De’Andre ran up to me and screamed in my face “GOAL” I screwed him. He laughed and kissed me on my cheek.
“Man like Nemanja Vidic” De’Andre shouted.
“Seriously? Argh, it’s just a match. Don’t piss me off. Bare shouting.” I closed my laptop, got up and walked into the kitchen. I rinsed out a cup, and filled it up with water from the fountain. I heard the kitchen door close. I turnt around while drinking down my water.
“Yes Damari?” I said not really bothered.
“Deem, Deem, Deem...” He said as he walked up to me. I backed up against the sink.
“Y-yes...” I stuttered.
“You don’t understand how much....how much...how much it hurts me to see you with my cousin.” He said while standing in front of me.
“Uhm....Mari...”
“Ssh...” He whispered before kissing me. I realised what he was trying to do and pushed him back.
“Stop it. I’m with De’Andre...I’m with your cousin.” I said before making my way to the water fountain once more.
“Hmm fine...but seriously you need to tell De’Andre or I will.” He said.
“Tell me what?” I looked up slowly to see De’Andre standing there looking back and forth from me and Damari.
“I...I...” I stuttered
Why ?!
