Rudolph and Tony try to understand the new shift in their 'relationship'
The week after, when the heats of Adam and Tony had passed, both omegas were still wrapping their heads around their respective developments.
Adam was somewhat guilty he had triggered Tony to an early presentation, but for the most part he was also still baffled about what had happened; he never expected he'd be pushed to an early heat just by being at the presence of Gregory, which just about confirmed that the vampire was most possibly his ultimate soulmate.
As for Rudolph, the first time he saw Tony seeing him again after the incident, the blond had been mortified as he remembered the change between them and ran off leaving the vampire flabbergasted. When he opened it up to his parents, Freda had advised him the boy space. And he did. But Rudolph had missed Tony terribly too. So there was only much waiting he could do.
"Tony, please we can't keep doing this." Rudolph said, skipping the greeting, as soon as he sees Tony again after nightfall giving him no chance to think about running off. "I know it must be mortifying more so for you than me, but this is reminding me of that time we had a tiff back at Halloween." He frowned, "or... Is that it? Do you hate it that I turned out to be your Soul mate? That you have me... For a Zing?"
Tony looked at his friend's forlorn expression, "It's not that, Rud." He promised. "To be honest, I did consider the idea that I wouldn't mind if you had turned out to be that to me. But now that it's happened..."
The blond remembered that time when he wished Rudolph to be his soul mate. He always thought it didn't always have to mean in a romantic way. But that didn't seem likely, far as his omega presentation was concerned.
"It's okay," Rudolph forestalled, interrupting him. "It's okay, I get it Tony. It's mind boggling for me too. But it's only when you were revealed to be my Zing that I'm slowly starting to grasp the concept." He said.
"It's just... You're my friend." Tony continued, relieved by Rudolph's understanding. "And now I find out you're supposed to be more than that to me, it's... I'm still trying to..."
Rudolph shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "Mother told me that we don't have to force it. In fact, even father said our case is the youngest he's known for a Zing to reveal itself." He said.
"You're about 300 years old." Tony deadpanned, but managed to smile.
Rudolph waved a dismissive hand, "Nuance," he said. "Point is, we can take our time, ease ourselves in, you might say. We can go about the usual way, in the manner of friends, as I believe we're both more comfortable in for the time being. The rest... Well, it could come later once we've eased into it more. Wouldn't you agree this as an acceptable course of action?"
"Rudolph, you─" Tony stared at his friend in some kind of wonder, before snickering suddenly. "You sounded like an old wise geezer then. But I guess that's just you acting your age."
The vampire huffed indignantly. "Hey, I very much resent that." He snapped, "After all, as far as immortal life goes, age is just a number."
"Yeah, my grandma would say that a lot too."
Rudolph narrowed his eyes at the blond, "In these kind of moments, I regret not sucking the blood out of you the first time."
Tony just laughed at that. "Well, we've wasted a week and I don't want to remember this particular summer this way." He said. "I don't think we've seen all the hotel yet, too. Wanna do some exploring?"
"I'd be delighted. Oh, I went with this one certain invisible fellow and he showed me a grand time in this room they called an 'Arcade.' It's a tad far from where we are, but we can fly there." Rudolph grinned, "Gives me a chance to practice being a bat." At that note, he transformed into the aforementioned Chiroptera. "Hey, it's getting easier. I can do it now in a second! Maybe it's just the first time that's tricky."
Tony had a hand pressed to his mouth, trying not to laugh at his friend's now high-pitched voice. "While that is one part sick, and another part awesome." he started, "I don't think I can really fly alongside you that way."
"Oh, right. Of course," Rudolph conceded, a bit chagrined, before changing back into a vampire. "Though, I guess eventually, that won't be an issue for long."
A moment of silence pass after that.
"Remember the part about easing in, Rud?" The blond finally broke the silence, "Yeah, that wasn't doing it."
Rudolph managed a guilty smile, "Duly noted, my friend."
