Allegiant (Ending Rewritten)

Chapter 54

Tobias

I must have fallen asleep last night while sitting next to Tris, so I get up, glance over at Tris, then head down to the cafeteria to find Christina.
Once I get there I grab a muffin and spot Christina sitting next to Cara.
"Hey Christina. Hey Cara."
"Oh, hey Four. I see you finally woke up," Christina says.
"Yeah. I needed my beauty sleep," I say, trying to lighten the mood since we all know that Tris should be waking up any day now.
I take the seat next to Christina and eat my muffin.
As soon as I finish eating I get up and go back to Tris' room, but when I get there, I realize someone else is already in here.
Caleb.
"Get out."
"Why? I have a right to see Tris too. I do happen to be her sister," Caleb replies.
"You also happen to be the one who betrayed her. And then when you were supposed to die, you were the one who let her go instead."
"Four. you don't understand. She held me at gunpoint! I couldn't do-"
"Do you really think she would have shot you?"
"No, but-"
"Save it for somebody who cares. Get out of here. Now!"
And at that, Caleb rushes out. I know he deserved to die, and he still does. I don't want him hurting Tris anymore than he already has."

I don't know how long it's been since I first sat down next to Tris; all I know is that Christina is sitting on the other side now.
"Hey," I say.
"Hey. Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I'm just thinking."
"About what?" Christina asks. I know she has a right to know, but I don't even know how to explain.
"About Tris. How much I miss her. And how much I hate Caleb."
"Four. you need to understand that Caleb feels so bad about what he has done to Tris, and you pushing him away is only making it harder for him. And when she wakes up, it will be difficult for him to mend his relationship with Tris. He is her only family left, you know."
"I am her family Christina! And he deserves to be out of Tris' life once and for all!"
"You don't think, I can't stand his guts either? I hate him so much, but I am willing to try and give him a chance at coming back into Tris' life. And you should too."
Christina pauses then continues, and I can see the hurt in her eyes even though I know she is trying to cover it up. "And now about you missing Tris. We all miss her, but you need to understand though that Tris needs this. She needs the rest. She has been through so much, and this break will help her heal."
"But what if this doesn't help? What if she's traumatized? I mean, I know she is strong, but there has been so much that has happened to her so quickly. What if the death serum messed with her brain? What if she isn't the same? I don't think I could live with myself if she is not okay because I could've stayed here. I could have protected her." At this point I am trying to fight back tears that threaten to tear me apart. But I know, I have to be strong. if not for myself, then for Tris.
Christina notices though and comes and embraces me; however, she keeps quiet. I know she doesn't have an answer, and that she is fearful of the same thing.
"It'll be okay. No matter what happens. It will be okay. And none of this is your fault. Tris knew the risks; we all knew it was basically a suicide mission, but she went anyway because she must still love Caleb. At least a little."
"You don't know that it will be okay," I say. "We won't know. Until she wakes up."
Christina decided it would be best to stay with me throughout the night, and just for a moment I think everything will be okay.

"Do you want me to get you some breakfast?" Christina asks.
"No, I'm good. I'm not very hungry." I know I have barely eaten the past few days, but I'm just not hungry.
"Okay. I'm going to get some for myself. I'll be back in a little bit."
And with that, Christina leaves.

While I sit here, I look at Tris and admire her beautiful face. She looks so peaceful- sleeping.
For a second I think I see her twitch, but maybe I am just seeing things from lack of sleep. Then I see it again though, and I see her beautiful eyes open and look up at me.
