We took off upstairs, it's the only place we could get a little privacy. Don't get me wrong, shorty was gorgeous, but my mind wasn't on trying to get anything out of her at the moment. I wanted to see where her level of thinking was at, and if I could vibe with her.

"So wassup? Let me pick your brain, you know, dig into what you really are."

She laughed again. I didn't know whether to take her laughs as a compliment or an insult, I let her do her though.

"I mean, I'm not that complex. Just a simple 17 year old girl out here looking for her Mr. Right...you know? So far it's been nothing but Mr. Wrongs though, they see me, and my body, and think they can just hit me with a quick wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Then they get mad when I call them out for it, and eventually dub them. That's only the front story though. I'll tell you my background in the future."

I was glad she wasn't easy, I wanted a challenge. I just sat back and let her keep talking.

"Actually, I'll just tell you now. I'm new to this city, me, my younger brother, and my parents moved out here when some shit went down in our hometown. I don't like talking about it, it brings back memories that I would rather forget."

A sense of empathy came over me, my story and hers, they were very alike. At this point I figured she was done talking, so I started to tell her about my life.

"The same shit happened to me, as of which I also wouldn't like to dwell on. But, I think females see me for something I'm not. They think because I'm the star player on my basketball team, and I carry myself this way that I'm conceited, or arrogant. When it's the opposite; I try to be the most humble person you'll come across. I keep everything real, and I'm not going to short anything. I also don't have a lot of luck in the love department, probably because I can't assimilate myself into the way this generation sees a relationship. I want to vibe with a person first, I like talking about a plethora of things...and then the physical stuff can come into place. I guess females don't see that a lot, and aren't used to it. You know what I mean? I'm on the verge of hopelessness, and just giving in to the wave."

She looked at me shocked, like something like that could never come out of someone like me. And then just gazed into my eyes. I looked back, and I could tell she was what I needed.

We spent the rest of that night up there, just talking, sharing interests, everything you could think of. Believe it or not, she was also a basketball player, for this school around the way. An honor roll student too. She was just chalking up wins on my board, I couldn't get enough of hearing her talk. All of a sudden, Keyon comes upstairs, and signals that it's time to go.

"Yo, we about to break out. I'll be in the whip come on."

I looked at Melanie, and I just told Keyon I was cool.

"Go ahead, I'm chilling. I'll fuck with y'all tomorrow though. Peace."

He nodded, and took off. I figured that the party had died down since the guys were leaving, so I took her downstairs. It was only about 70 people here now, and Melanie's friends were looking for her. As I was walking with her, one of them grabbed her arm and said they needed to go. She grabbed my hand, and wrote her number on it, then kissed me on the cheek. She was gone after that. I stood in the same spot for about 10 minutes, then I took off back home, love struck.
