A week passed, and I still haven't texted shorty. Why? I don't know, I had a plethora of thoughts running through my head, honestly I was the only one stopping myself from hitting her up. I had to man up though, and take this chance. So I did what I had to do, picked up my phone, and began to text. I didn't know how to arrive in her messages though, especially after waiting so long. I just said what had first came to mind.
"Hey, this is Dev from the party last week. Sorry for not texting back quicker, I just didn't know what to say."
I hit send and waited a good five minutes for a reply. After I didn't get it in that time frame, I decided to go about my day and periodically check my phone. As I did that, time passed and passed and still not hit back...I started to think my opportunity had passed. Then, right before I gave up on hope, my phone lit up. It was Melanie.
"Sorry, was at work all day, but hey! I was waiting on you to hit my line. What's up?"
Man I'll tell you I had never been so happy, I texted back so quick, sparked a conversation with her. Turns out she just started working at the gym me and my boys practice at, that was a bonus. A little more back and forth continued, then she asked if I was free tomorrow, she wanted to go out to eat and wondered if I could accompany her. I told her it was a date, which it was. After that, I called Keith to tell him what just happened.
"Yo Keith man, remember shorty from the party last week?"
"Yeah I know exactly who you talking about...why what's the drop?"
"Look, she wants to go on a date tomorrow, I don't know what she's about to be on...you wanna come through? I know you remember who she was with I'll see if she can bring another shorty with her. You with it?"
"Oh yeah, most definitely, hit me tomorrow let me know the deal, peace."
I texted Melanie, and she in fact did have a friend, and was down for the idea of a double date. After setting that in stone, I watched a little TV for the rest of the night, and laid it down.
I woke up that morning, and told Keith the plan. We were going to Red Lobster, and then to chill downtown after. I almost did the same routine I did the week before for the party, Keith and I hit the barbershop, then chilled at the mall for a while. As we were about to leave, an unpleasant surprise popped up. I heard a yell from afar, I turned around, it was my loud ass ex girlfriend, Zoe.
"Dev!!! I know you hear me! Oh what now you can't speak?"
I let out a sigh, and looked back for Keith, who was already outside.
"I saw you and your little friend at P.F. Chang's, I know you saw me too, don't play stupid Devin."
"Look Zoe, nobody saw you, or was paying attention to you. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go catch up to my friend. Peace."
If there was anything that got under my skin, it was being called Devin, and she knew that. As I was trying to walk away, she grabbed me.
"I know you miss me, you don't have to front. Nobody is here."
"I don't miss you, remember you were the one who cheated...I'll be leaving now."
I snatched my arm out of her hand, and took off for the doors. I heard her voice but I couldn't decipher what she said. As I walked outside I saw Keith talking to some girls, I walked up to him in a rush.
"Alright nigga let's go, I know you saw what I saw we need to bounce."
He saw the look on my face, and nodded.
"Alright, we out. I'll holla, ladies."
We got in the car, and I could've hit that nigga at this point.
"So you just bail on me? You know how I am about her..."
"Look, I thought you would've took off with me, but fuck it, we got bigger shit to tend to tonight. Don't pay her any mind."
That was the last we spoke of that incident.
