Cole POV
I folded my clothes on top on the dresser, yawning. I kept thinking about... things. I looked down at my ring, smiling. That day was probably the best day of my entire life. But how would we... I shook my head to clear it.
I heard someone behind me stretch sleepily. I turned to see my husband just waking up. "Hey, beautiful," I whispered singsongy.
"Hey," he groaned. "What time is it? It feels like six am."
"Actually, it's ten."
"Dang."
I chuckled and gave Kai a kiss on the forehead. "C'mon, we're going for a hike today!"
"I don't wanna hike," he whined.
"Oh, seriously? Because I recall you being the one who said we should."
"I was joking."
"Too late now," I teased. Then I thought about... I felt my eyes glisten with tears. I pushed them back.
"Are you okay," Kai asked, holding my hands.
"Fine, but thank you." I gave Kai a half-hearted smile, but he kept holding onto me.
"No, something's wrong. Tell me."
I sighed and sat down on the side of the bed. "Kai... how are we going to pass on the elemental powers?" I looked up to him, my heart feeling like a shattered piece of glass. But Kai did not share my emotions. His face was just compassionate and loving. "That's my husband," he said, giving me a hug. "Always caring for others first. Don't worry," Kai pulled away from me. "We'll figure it out. We always do." He kissed me then dragged me up. "Now, get up, you big goofball! We have to go hiking!"
"All right, all right! I'm coming, jeez!"
