[A Flashback Through the Eyes of ???]
I saw them run away.
It was like poison to my soul. It wasn't fair. Life is never fair, of course, but it wasn't right. And now I hated them.
Because they'd lied.
I hate liars.
Now here I was, alone. Angry. Frustrated. Possibly also delusional.
I wandered down the destroyed Hellicarrier hall, watching through blurry eyes the forms of random figures I didn't know and couldn't place dashing around.
And that's when I knew exactly where I wanted to go to help me extract my revenge.
Further down the hall I went, looking, searching, scouring for the place-card I wanted to find that I'd seen twice before.
There, I saw it.
Lab.
Yes. Here is where I needed to be.
Flailing into the door that hung half open in disarray, I walked around slowly before I found it. Piles of un-protected vials, bags of potions and a box that read: Do Not Open.
Well what was I supposed to do, not open it?
It opened with a hiss of air, and inside was something I'd never seen before. It looked distorted, and slightly evil. What fun touching that would be, a thing that was almost a mirror of me.
Only, there was glass around it. Bulletproof glass. I couldn't break it, which meant I couldn't touch it either. So I grabbed it instead and a few other odd kind of vials, dropping the special one into my sweatshirt hood.
A few minutes later, inside an empty room, I was at it again, trying to open the case. The bloody glass one just wouldn't open.
"Screw you," -I hissed through clenched teeth in a rapid breath at the stubborn glass protection- "and your 'Lab Safety'." Another growl emitted from my throat as I continued. "I want superpowers!"
"I want to take them down!"
"Gonna raise the stakes...smoke them out...I will obliterate them."
My muttering never stopped. I kept going, my fingers falling from the glass top to the ground, drumming against the floor in four beats at a time.
"Demons run when a good man goes to war. Night will fall and drown the sun. When a good man goes to war, friendship dies and true love lies. Night will fall and the dark will rise, when a good man goes to war. Demons run but count the cost. The battle's won but the child is lost."
I chuckled.
"I am the lost child. Our friendship has died, so count the cost. I'll make night will fall and I will drown the sun. Demons run when I go to war. Better start running!"
"Did you hear me?" I said it louder, as if they could hear me. Maybe they could.
"BETTER START RUNNING!"
"DID YOU HEAR ME?"
"RUN!"
I screamed the last word furiously, and then began to laugh. It felt good. It felt proper. This was me, and I was this.
Ah, they would never see it coming. I'd strike, out of the dark. I'd be waiting. I'd be waiting in hell.
That's when I decided.
