How did you guess the code?”

“Wait!

“Okay, continue.”

“Diba ang sabi sa clue ay in the first set (2 9 1), one number is correct and in the right place. In the second set (2 4 5), one number is correct but in the wrong place. In the third set (4 6 3), two numbers are correct but in the wrong place. In the fourth set (5 7 8), nothing is correct. And in the fifth set (5 6 9), one number is correct and in the right place.”

“From the fourth set, it's obvious that 5, 7, and 1 are not part of the code. From the second and fifth sets, we know that 5 is not correct.

“Yung number 2 is also not part of the code. Why?

“Yeah, right!

“If I exclude 2 and 1 in the first set, ang matitira ay ang number 9. So, that's the correct number and it's in the right place. First set, solved.”

Second set. If I remove the number 2 and 5, matitira ang number 4. So that's the correct number but in the wrong place. Second set, solved.”

Third set. There's two correct numbers but in the wrong place. Ang unang number na tama ay 4 and we both know that the number 4 is not in the second position. So, 6 and 3 will be left. Third set, still unsolved.”

“Let's move to the fifth set muna dahil wala namang tama sa fourth set. Fifth set. It said that the fifth set has one correct number but in the wrong place. The number 9 is the correct number and alam natin natin na ang right place ng number na 9 ay sa gitna. If 9 is the correct number, that would make 5 and 6 wrong. So, if we go back to the third set. The two correct numbers that are in the wrong place are 4 & 3.”

“The number 9 from the first set is the correct number and in the right place, siya ang code na nasa second or middle position. If the number 4 is not in the first or second position, ibig sabihin ay siya ang pang third or the last one. And that would make the number 3 in the first position. So, the code is...?”

“394!” I nodded at him once again.

“You're such a genius!”
