Cindy's POV
The wedding was enchanting—the bride radiant, the atmosphere warm and familial. Surrounded by Hugo's extensive family and close friends, I realized I never knew his family was this expansive. A pang of longing stirred within me; I yearned for a bustling family, holidays filled with laughter, and a countryside home bustling with children.
Throughout the ceremony, tears of joy streamed down my cheeks as I envisioned my own future—a wedding adorned with diamonds, a flowing white gown, and an intimate countryside celebration. Every detail meticulously curated on my Pinterest board, awaiting realization after I finish university.
But reality hit hard on Monday morning, dragging me from the dreamy weekend back to the university grind. Standing near the cafeteria, discontent etched on my face, I braced myself for the week ahead.
"What's with the face?" Hugo's voice broke through my reverie.
"Isn't it her regular Monday face?" Lele chimed in, sipping her morning coffee.
Their banter didn't bother me; I knew lectures awaited. My anxiety mounted as I waited for Silas, my constant companion, who had been uncharacteristically silent since Saturday.
Attempting to call him only heightened my restlessness, nerves tingling with fear and frustration.
"Okay, you should get to class," Hugo suggested, offering comfort in his embrace.
"But where is he? He's not responding to my calls or messages. Should I send a pigeon to Mr. Silas to get a response?" I blurted nervously, a mix of fear and anger in my voice.
"He's not responding to mine either," Hugo admitted.
"Nor mine," Lele added.
I rolled my eyes at her response. "He never did this. What's happening with him?" I fretted.
"I don't know. He might just be late, caught up with something," Hugo offered, guiding me towards class.
"And if he doesn't show up, we can always pay him a visit," he added, attempting to reassure me.
"And we kick his ass," I added, a hint of determination in my voice.
"Yes, we can do that too," Hugo agreed, offering a small smile.
He then walked me to class. I went in, and I immediately felt a wave of loneliness wash over me, overshadowed by concern for Silas. I didn't feel this way even when Gregorie ghosted me; which by the way, is still ghosting me and completely vanished from the face of earth.
Twenty minutes in, the door creaked open, and Silas entered, his demeanor distant. I scrutinized him discreetly, noting a bruised lip but nothing alarming.
He came in, avoiding any eye contact with me. He sat down next to me without greeting me not even sparing me a single look.
I glared at him silently, since he was avoiding eye contact, I just looked at him from head to toe checking him to reassure myself.
