"Keep your eyes off her," Alec advised.
"I'm trying," Vadik answered stiffly as he fixed the cuff of his sleeve.
They just arrived at the Bacardi party and he stood amongst hundreds of people that consisted of famous celebrities, influential politicians, alphas of this city and their families. However, the moment he arrived with his brother, his eyes were on one woman.
Mia sat elegantly in a pearl silk gown, that melted over her luscious curves and the neckline was off her shoulders. His eyes trailed down the long length of her pretty neck towards the soft curve of her shoulder, that caught the golden light beautifully. She had fashioned her hair up in a bun on her head, like a crown with diamonds glittering in the heavy curls. The dark curls that fell around her face tempted him to lay his lips on her neck to taste her radiant skin. Vadik thought she was beautiful with her hair down, but this captivated a dangerously feral need in him. He didn't know how he could've found himself obsessed with someone. Yet, here he stood, absolutely overwhelmed by her presence despite being on the opposite side of the room. A dark desire ran through him because more than being at this party, he needed to take her away somewhere where they could be alone together.
Alec warned him to keep his distance from her otherwise Kade would realize what was going on between them. Vadik also convinced himself to keep himself under control as well for her sake because she didn't want her brother knowing about their bond yet, which pissed him off even more, but he didn't fight her word, he could never do that to her.
Except, his resolve faltered as he stood here across the ballroom wanting nothing more than to go to her. He remembered vividly the kiss they shared in the car yesterday. She was soft and gentle with him. He'd never experienced such a sweet taste before and that alone had him defenceless. He found himself surrendering his body and soul to her in that moment. Everything around him vanished and all he could feel was her.
"You seem distracted," Veronica Bacardi observed.
Vadik snapped his attention back to the alpha-female of the White Wolf pack. She stood in a beautiful white gown that was nothing compared to the shine in her blue eyes. "Er- no, I'm not," he lied.
She laughed at him. "Who is it that your eyes keep searching for?" she asked him as she faced the crowd.
"I can't tell you," he said.
"Oh, don't be like that," she remarked. "You either tell me or I figure it out myself."
"Don't challenge her, Vadik," Czar, the alpha of the White Wolf pack spoke then when he heard his mate openly challenge Vadik. "She always wins."
Veronica smiled in triumph. "So, who is it?"
"Mia Guerriero," he told her.
Her eyes widened as she put her hand on his arm supportively. "Good luck," she said.
"I don't have it so bad," Vadik told her. "Alec is Kade's mate."
"Vadik!" Alec astounded.
"Is he telling the truth?" Czar asked Alec.
Alec grabbed the bridge of his nose. "Yes, he is," he sighed.
Czar and Veronica exchanged a wary look. "Don't start a war in this party," Czar warned.
"We won't," Alec said.
Vadik didn't promise anything because he was definitely going to do something that could get his head chopped off. But he knew what he was doing when taking on the risk to meet his mate alone somewhere.
