The Great Hall was buzzing with the usual chatter and laughter as the students of Hogwarts enjoyed their breakfast. But for Coin, today was different—it was her birthday. She had hoped her new friends at Hogwarts would remember, but as the morning wore on, it became increasingly clear that they had all forgotten.Seated at the Hufflepuff table, Coin tried to hide her disappointment as she exchanged polite smiles and casual conversation with her friends. Rachel, however, had noticed Coin's subdued demeanor and the way her eyes lit up whenever someone mentioned birthdays or celebrations.
"Coin, are you okay?" Rachel whispered, leaning closer to her friend. "You seem a little down today."
Coin forced a smile and shrugged, "Oh, I'm fine. Just a little tired, I guess."
Rachel wasn't convinced. She knew Coin well enough to sense when something was bothering her. As the morning progressed, Rachel discreetly approached James, Severus, and Lily to see if they had remembered Coin's birthday.
"Hey James, Severus, Lily," Rachel began, trying to sound casual, "do any of you know what today is?"
James and Severus exchanged puzzled glances, while Lily shrugged, "Just another ordinary day, I guess. Why?"
Rachel's heart sank as she realized they had all forgotten. Determined to make the day special for Coin, she decided to take matters into her own hands. During lunchtime, she discreetly slipped away and returned a few minutes later with a small, homemade cake adorned with colorful frosting and candles.
As the students gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday" to a surprised and delighted Coin, James, Severus, and Lily exchanged guilty glances, realizing the extent of their oversight.
"Happy Birthday, Coin!" Rachel exclaimed, presenting the cake with a bright smile. "I hope your day gets better from here."
Tears welled up in Coin's eyes as she blew out the candles and made a wish. "Thank you, Rachel," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "This means more to me than you'll ever know."
Despite the initial disappointment of being forgotten by her new friends, Rachel's thoughtful gesture reminded Coin that she was not alone and that true friendship was about understanding and caring for each other, even in the midst of misunderstandings and oversights.
Rachel's thoughtful gesture had made Coin's birthday memorable, but the atmosphere at the Hufflepuff table was still tinged with a hint of awkwardness and regret. James and Severus couldn't shake off the guilt they felt for forgetting Coin's special day, and they were unsure of how to make it right.
Severus, who had been particularly distant lately due to his ongoing conflicts with James, felt a pang of guilt as he watched Coin and Rachel share a warm moment of gratitude and friendship.
"Coin," Severus began hesitantly, "I... I'm sorry i forgot your birthday. It was thoughtless of me."
Coin looked up, surprised by Severus's unexpected apology. "Thank you, Severus," she replied softly, "I appreciate that."
James, feeling equally guilty, chimed in, "Coin, I know it doesn't excuse our forgetfulness, but we'd like to make it up to you. How about we organize a belated birthday celebration for you this weekend?"
Coin smiled, touched by James's sincerity. "That sounds nice, James. Thank you."
Rachel, sensing the shift in dynamics and wanting to ease the tension, decided to lighten the mood.
"Great! A birthday celebration sounds like fun," Rachel exclaimed, "and I know just the place where we can have it."
Severus, eager to make amends and show his support for Coin, offered, "I can help with the preparations. Just let me know what you need."
