How would you describe a murderer?
Do they have to look a certain way, or do they have to have a long track record of wrongdoings to show that they were no good from the beginning?
For Detective Jeong Yunho, it was neither.
He had been doing this job for a long time. Long enough to have come across so many different kinds of criminals who fit neither profile. He had seen people who killed their spouses for petty reasons, children who killed their parents simply because they could, and parents who had mercilessly ended their very flesh and blood all in cold blood.
He had seen all kinds of evil. Both young and old. All forms of gender and likes of races. Some seemed like they had justifiable reasons, and some were just done by plain evil. He had seen all kinds. Nothing surprised him anymore. This was his life as a detective.
You could never judge a book by its cover.
But now he was staring at the two files on his desk. There was nothing remarkable about the couple. If anything, they seemed too perfect, yet he couldn't help but feel like they were hiding something. Something dark and sinister. "So what do you have there?"
He snapped out of his head and looked at his partner. "Nothing much." He said as he closed the flies.
His partner, Mingi, shook his head, already knowing who it was he was looking at. "I think you should just let it go. You have been obsessed with this case for months now."
Yunho sighed and stood up. "If I still don't find anything this time. I will give up." He lightly tapped on his shoulder and walked away. Mingi was right. He felt like he was too occupied with the couple and nothing else, but he couldn't help it. It wasn't his fault that his gut kept telling him there was more to the story than they let on. Or maybe he was just looking for something that was never there before...

A year earlier
This was going to be their fresh start.
It hadn't been their plan, but this would do. He glanced over at his husband, who had his face out the car window with a content smile on his face, letting the wind blow in his face as they drove. It felt nice to see him relaxed and at ease. It had been too long since he last saw him this at peace and not in a constant state of anxiety.
He did feel bad about the whole moving away thing since they were leaving behind some good friends they had made in that city. But they had to leave. It was better that way. They were leaving all their friends and the life they once knew behind, but at least they were moving closer to their family. Most of their family lived on the outskirts of Seoul, considering that that was where they originally came from. They had only moved because of the jobs.
He slowly pulled up at their new house. It was nothing too extravagant but it was extremely nice for a house in the city. The last place they lived in was in an apartment complex, so this was an upgrade for them for sure. The both of them got out of the car. "Wow, the garden is a lot bigger than I thought it was."
"So you like it?" He asked, walking over to where his husband was bending over to see the little flower beds.
"Of course. Although it might need some more attention. But I already like it." He smiled up at him.
