"Henry. Do you like her?"

"Who, Cadence?" I looked his way.

"Well, yeah. Her." He said nervously as he looked off the roof to watch her, making sure she got home safe.

"Are you really thinking I have emotion? Feelings?" I said flatly, but something stirred in me. The time we were close to kissing, all the times she hugged me. Every time she laughed and she smiled.

I almost regretted saying that. But emotion was nothing but a distraction. Nothing but the thing keeping you from finishing the mission.

The plague doctor walked along with the rest of his Group. Then something caught his eye and he slowed down, turning his head to look at a little girl. No older than ten. She was holding a rose, the red sticking out. She looked at me and held it up to me. I didn't make a move, unsure what to do. I considered starting to walk again, but then the little girl grabbed my hand and she placed the rose inside it. I instinctively closed my hand around it, my gloves making the thorns unable to pierce my skin. The little girl smiled at me and started to walk off. It was now I realized that the Group was ahead of me. I placed the rose in one of my pouches and watched the girl run off. Under my mask I smiled, the first time in a while

“Can't you see?” His tone was hurt and the cry pained her. “I'm a monster!”

She was speechless and just slowly walked up to him, but he shook his head.

“No, no! Get- get away!” He backed up and tripped, falling backwards. He whimpered and curled up. She knelt down beside him and set him up. He tried to move away from her touch but it didn't work. She set him against the wall, and she saw the tears in his eyes.

“I'm a monster… I…” he broke into more tears. She grabbed his taloned hand and held it in her own. She placed her other hand on the side of his slightly scaly, but still human, face.

“You're not a monster to me.” She choked out.

A/n: Bit of a trigger warning for this one

"Father said our dreams shape us to who we become…" I said to no one, with a shaky, crisp breath. -flash- darkness -flash-

"our dreams become our life…" -flash- a screech and a flash of white -flash

"no matter how impossible they seem-" -flash- a pair of glistening eyes appeared and blinked away -flash-

"But I didn't have dreams…" -flash- darkness, but the clanging of swords clashed through it. -flash-

"No…. No…" -flash- it lit up, and a monster appeared, it screeched. And there were two men fighting, with swords.

"You must be thinking, what DID I have?" I chuckled a bit. -flash- the monster picked the two men up, and threw them into the distance -flash-

"I had nightmares." -flash- the monster screeched again, but in pain this time… blood ran down its face and tail. Then it disintegrated. -flash-

"And they were nasty too…" -flash- I looked around, and saw a werewolf. He ran up to me, half of his body covered in sticky, crusty blood. -flash-

"Sometimes I would wake up and throw up at the horrendous things I saw.." I sighed. -flash- the werewolf rubbed its arm across its snout, snarled, and stalked up to me. I backed up, then there was a wall. -flash-

"But… there was always something… at the end of every nightmare." -flash- then the place got brighter, I had to squint. The werewolf whimpered and ran away. I looked around and saw a young girl around my age. I've never seen her in real life- yet- but I couldn't wait to meet her. -flash-
