Tatted hands tried to grip a dormant fish, but the sea creature woke up and swam off, slipping through the small hands. The owner of these adventurous hands clicked their tongue.

"Damn it! (Name) liked that one!" A boy huffed. He crossed his arms, "What am I gonna give him for his birthday now?" He knelt down in the water, trying to remain as still and quiet as possible. He held a fishing rod—that he stole from his dad—between his legs, but he didn't use the fishing equipment, since he didn't know how, but he kept it with him.

He stayed quiet as he looked along the lake, waiting for a pretty, sparkling fish to come around. Thanks to his will, and his determination to please his friend, the boy sat in the lake like a statue. He was unmoving and focused as he watched the fish cautiously swim past him.

He didn't try to grab any of them, since he was confident that they wouldn't catch the fancy of his friend.

After waiting in the water for more than twelve minutes, the boy finally found a fish. It looked as if its scales were the color of the rainbow, but the scales were orange and white in reality. The sun reflection made the fish look more beautiful than it was, but it was still pretty. It was small, too, which is good! The boy's friend doesn't like big fish; in all honesty, they're actually terrified of big fish.

The boy eased himself to the dormant fish.

He stumbled a few times, which made him think the fish was gonna swim away; fortunately, it didn't move at all.

The boy spreads his arms a little, surrounding the oblivious fish. He eased his hands towards it.

Slow and Steady—

"Malcolm?! Are you out here?"

The loud call caused for the fish to swim away.

Malcolm froze.

The fish he waited so long for had swam away from the loud call. The voice was familiar, but Malcolm's upcoming rage nearly clogged all his senses. Whoever the hell scared his friends gift away was gonna receive a lot of cursed words straight to the face.

The fish jumped out the water as he faced the direction he heard the disrupting voice.

The owner of the familiar voice walked through the bushes that somewhat surrounded the lake, "Malcolm—oh! Found you!" The person who ruined the capture of his friend's gift was the friend themselves

The owner of the familiar voice walked through the bushes that somewhat surrounded the lake, "Malcolm—oh! Found you!" The person who ruined the capture of his friend's gift was the friend themselves.

He recognizes those (e/c) eyes and the short (h/c) hair mixed with the beaming smile that he always wore.

"(N-Name)! I thought you were gonna to stay with your mom today!" Malcolm blushed slightly, rubbing his wet hands along his pants.

"Well, yeah, but I got bored." (Name) whined.

The (h/c) haired male then pouted, "Your mom told me you were off to fish, so I came to help! Besides, how are you gonna catch anything without a bucket?" (Name) beamed as he held up the bucket.
