The morning started like any other for Liv and Eva. It was a Wednesday, and they had a rare day off. They woke up to the sound of the twins babbling in their cribs, their laughter filling the house with joy. Liv rolled over, reaching for Eva's hand as they exchanged sleepy smiles.
"Good morning, love," Liv whispered, pressing a soft kiss to Eva's lips.
"Morning, Liv," Eva murmured, her voice still heavy with sleep. "Ready to tackle another day?"
Liv chuckled, nodding as she swung her legs out of bed. "Always," she replied. "But first, breakfast and some playtime with these two."
After a quick breakfast of toast and fruit, Liv and Eva took turns playing with Lily and Emily, their laughter filling the room as they tickled and cuddled the twins. But as the morning went on, Liv noticed something different about Lily's behaviour. She seemed more agitated than usual, her movements jerky and unpredictable.
"Eva, something's not right," Liv said, her voice tinged with concern as she watched Lily fussing in her arms. "She's never been this unsettled before."
Eva's brow furrowed with worry as she reached out to take Lily from Liv. "You're right," she agreed, her voice tight with concern. "I'm going to go get Emily changed, then we can bring her over to Katie and Caitlins and bring Lily to the doctor."
"Okay, just be quick, I have a bad feeling about this." Liv said, sitting down on the couch, trying to sooth Lily by rocking her. "I'll text Katie while you get Em dressed. Pack her a bag for the day incase we take longer."
To McCard: Hey Katie, Lily is acting weird and we're getting worried so we're going to bring her to the doctor. Would you guys be able to take Em for the day?
Katie read the messages and responded almost immediately,
From McCard: Yeah, of course. Drop her off whenever and keep us all updated about Lily.
To McCard: Okay, Eva is just getting her dressed now, we should be by to drop her off in about 15 minutes.
Eva came down the stairs a few minutes later, with Emily in her arms. They quickly loaded everyone into the car, Liv sitting in the back seat to keep an eye on Lily. Katie and Caitlin only lived 5 minutes away, so when they arrived Eva carried her inside, leaving Liv in the car with Lily. Eva spoke to Katie quickly before returning to the car and driving to the hospital.
The drive to the hospital felt like an eternity, the fear and uncertainty heavy in the air. But as they arrived at the hospital Lily started moving erratically again. She was shaking in Liv's arms, and they ran into the Emergency Department. They were quickly brought into a bright room with lots of doctors, and someone took Lily out of Liv's arms and set her on the bed. Eva was brought over to another nurse, who was asking for Lily's medical information and Liv sat beside the bed, holding Lily's hand and stroking her head.
After a couple of minutes, Lily stopped moving so erratically and everyone began to calm down. "She's stable for the moment, but we will need to run some tests to find out what caused this." One of the doctors said as she moved over to Liv. "Are you her mother?"
"Yeah" Olivia responded quietly, still holding Lily's hand in her own.
"Alright, I promise we will do everything we can to help your baby girl." The doctor said calmly. "And who are you to Lily?" She asked, directing the question at Eva, who was standing behind Liv's chair, with her hands on her shoulders.
"I'm Eva, Liv's girlfriend." Eva responded, "Lily's father isn't in the picture anymore."
"Okay, I'm going to need you guys to give me all her medical information before we can run all the tests." The doctor said, Eva and Liv quickly answered all of their questions, before being asked to stay in the room while they brought Lily down to a different room to get tests.
