Weeks passed and we managed to bury Rilee in the back between two split trees. I visit her nearly everyday when I need answers or comfort. It's been three weeks since Vincent joined the team. Dad wasn't happy I didn't consult him first. I had my own reasons. I'm sitting on the small bench I placed in front of Rilee's grave when I hear the back door open, It's Phoenix. "Mike is calling a team meeting, He says it's important." I nodded in acknowledgment and stood up. "Let's head in then. Talk to you in a minute Rie." I muttered the last bit, slightly turning my head to the grave. I walk up to Phoenix and they led the way inside and into the kitchen. Sam is sitting on the counter, Caiden is standing beside him with a cast on his leg and Alex is standing on the other side of Sam. The adults, Vincent, Charlette and Nana were scattered. Vincent was on the rocking chair in front of the living room window, Charlette was sitting in the Couch and Nana was standing beside my dad in the kitchen in front of Sam and the other two.
Phoenix and I stand beside Alex, Sam, and Caiden, and dad began to talk. "I'm going out for a food restock and medical supplies. Since Rilee's death food and medical was put to the side. I should be back tomorrow if not late tonight." I tensed, he's leaving? Bullshit. "Excuse me, what's one of the rules of the group? We can't leave without a teammate." I cocked a brow upward with a glare in my eyes, my hands on my hips. "This group isn't suited for battle just yet. You're missing an eye, Caidan has three limbs, Nana can't run, and Charlette has a sprained wrist." He argued back. "What about Sam, Alex or Phoenix? It doesn't matter the age as long as we listen to one another!" Phoenix grabbed my hand, they were aware I was getting angry. "Sam is recovering mentally, Alex would be jumpy to every little thing and Phoenix can't run either!" He growled, his main attention was focused on my left side of my face. "So! You aren't going alone! What if something happens! At least take Vincent!" Dad shook his head and placed his hands on my shoulders, he was looking at me with slight anger, frustration and worry. "I've made my Decision. I'll be back tonight or tomorrow and I'll be fine kid." My heart spiked and I glanced at the new gun we retrieved from Vincent's house, another rifle. "At least take that with you!" I demanded, my voice strained with fear and anger. Dad nodded, and smiled, he leaned down, kissed my forehead, walked to the gun, and back toward my mall group of teenagers, looking at Sam. "Make sure he behaves, his meds are in the guest bathroom if he needs sleep or needs to calm down." Sam nodded and Dad made his way to the front door. He's taking the truck... Why not the car in the garage? And with that he was gone. I couldn't help but let out a low growl in being disobeyed. But what was I supposed to do? Yes, we needed that food. Yes we need the medical supplies. But he didn't bother taking any of us. Vincent stood up and walked to the door, peaking through the blinds. I don't fully trust him so I shot Sam a look and gestured to the man in my front door. "Vincent sit down." Sam called from his seat on the counter, we aren't done with the meeting." I nodded, and spoke up. "We need to find a generator for the electricity. And if someone on the block has security cameras, we can use those for the house's surroundings. And we can use their fences to block out the forest behind the house. Vincent. Did you have security cameras?" The man looked at me and nodded, "I do, and so does Mary and Maria." I nodded and sighed. "We will go to Maria's house tomorrow afternoon, after dad comes back. The next day, Vincent's, and then Mary's. I'll take Sam and Phoenix with me while Alex and Caiden stay here. With you three." I gestured to Nana, Charlotte and Vincent. And then I made myself back to the backyard to talk to my deceased friend. Caiden followed close pursuit. "Azrael." He called to me, as I made myself to the bench in front of my old friends grave. "Hm." I looked back at him, a glare in my dark eye. "Why can't I go with you?" He asked, limping over to a tree to hold his balance. I looked him up and down and stared directly at his leg. He seemed to get the hint. "I can hold stuff!" He tried to reason. "Caiden we've had this discussion. The answer is no." I hissed, sitting down on the bench. "Why do you go! You're missing your damned eye!" I kept my attention on the ground in front me and spoke again. "I can go because I have to be sure you lot are safe, AND because I have all four limbs in tact. Unlike SOME people." I retorted, he caught attention of the attitude and growl in my voice. "What's your problem with me? Are you still mad for what happened? Is that it?" I growled lowly, and stood up, looking back at him. "No my problem is, is that you don't know how to do as you're told. And if you bring up something YOU. Did I won't hesitate to show you the proof." I got into his face, gently shoved him into the tree, and sat back down. Caiden scoffed and sat down beside me. For a long moment it was quiet, until he ruined it. "I know you're still mad at me."
I nodded, it wasn't something I could deny. "Yes. You're right. Want a medal?" I sarcastically questioned, feeling my anger only burn more. Caiden glanced down and sighed. "I was stressed. You know that..." I quickly shot him a look, yelled at him. "Stressed! Yeah right! You told me we could remain friends and then ghosted me for months! The only way I knew you were alive was when Alex would update me or when you saw my Snapstory. Face it. You hate me for no reason."
He grabbed my wrist and tightened his grasp, my eye went wide. "Touch fucking touch me." I hissed, his grip became tighter and he looked me deep into my soul. Why does it feel like he's gotten stronger...? "I do care! It was just awkward! I'm sorry okay! I understand why you're mad but-" I interrupted him, snatching my hand from his grasp. "You don't understand my anger! You left me and then things fell apart! I felt like I was constantly grieving for someone I KNEW wasn't gonna come back to me! So why don't you shut up? I don't wanna get my hopes up waiting for some guy I used to like to come around the corner and be my friend again!" He seemed a bit startled, he stood up quietly, and left me be, Returning back to the house I only caught him looking at me as he got to the door. I let out a quiet groan of frustration and leaned into the bench.
"Rilee.. what do I do... you were always there when I needed your advice- Help me out on this...?" I exhale a long breath, looking up at the sky. "He'll be fine..."
