I'm not getting ahead with this case. I have not even discovered the source of things. Ally Wilson remains in danger; she has been gone for a month.
The circumstances I put Tris in were completely inappropriate and ineffective. Lucas did not provide her with the answers she was hoping for. They scarcely mentioned the case.
Just driving away from Lucas's house made me upset. I'm not sure why my gut tells me he's involved in Tris' troubles.

But I was more upset because they kissed.

What the fuck was she thinking when she kissed her ex?
Sometimes I don't comprehend what she is saying. Fuck, I don't understand her at all.
It was fucking obvious that he lied, and that ally was the one that got all up on him.
He could have pushed her away or done anything.

That was all bullshit he told Tris, and she believed every single thing he said.
Just because she is still in love with him.
What the fuck does she see in him?
Why should I care whether she loves or hates her ex?

After leaving his residence, the dark SUV that followed was a team looking for Mr. Ledger. They knew Beatrice Ledger was with me, and they wanted to take her in exchange for Mr. Ledger.
Mr. Ledger was apparently a member of a money laundering operation. It's astounding coming from Mr. Ledger, who runs a profitable company.

But things appear strange, and I learned more about the case; it turns out he isn't affluent after all. His company went bankrupt over a year ago, and he began laundering money. His wife, Mrs. Ledger, had no idea what her husband was doing under her nose. She had an online business and was focused on it; she only traveled to Mr. Ledger's business trip as a partner and had no idea what was going to happen.
The detectives who interviewed her informed me of what was going on, and she'll be flying back here a few days later.

I'm not sure how to inform Beatrice about all of this; she'd be devastated to learn that her father is a criminal, and that a slew of drug dealers and other huge gang members are seeking for him and will go to any length, including kidnapping her, to get to him.
First she was accused of kidnapping, and now she wants to be abducted.

I sighed deeply.

I haven't had enough sleep since we returned to the building. My private doctor arrived in my room to fix my arm. When the shooter shot me, the bullet pierced my shoulders but did not cause a significant injury. Just a few stitches and I'll be fine. But my car is pretty banged up. They continued to shoot at the car as I drove away, and eventually they gave up.
I'm sure they're still coming back for her.
I need to make sure she's okay; Mr. Ledger knew they'd be looking for his daughter, which is probably why he hired me before he found out she was accused of a crime.

Tris was hyperventilating and really screwed up after hearing the gunshot; she was alone in the backseat, and I wish I could embrace her and tell her everything is going to be okay.
That must have been terrifying for her, thinking she was going to die or be shot at.
After we returned to the apartment, I placed her in her room, and she dozed off, while Ryle and I went to listen to all of the recordings from the spy cameras in Lucas' room. He did not do anything odd or make any phone calls to anyone.

Ryle is likewise certain that he is innocent, but I can't bring myself to believe it.
Meanwhile, while Ryle returned to his home, I glanced at all of the photographs of the letters I had received from my office, then from my car, and also thought about the guy who broke into my apartment.
Who might it be...?

I just came up with another scheme that includes Tris again.
I stood in front of the glass panel, smoking, and looked down at the city. It's the only thing that calms my thoughts.
