Dakota had been abruptly woken up by the sound of a loud bang.
He quickly pulled out Aurora, it was the pink gun his mother gifted him when he was 16. His mother knew how dangerous it could get in Chicago so she made sure her son was protected at all times.
Dakota opened his room door extremely quietly hoping for no sound to come from it.
He crept down the stairs only to see his father slumped on the floor, he rolled his eyes.
Dakota and his father didn't have a good relationship with each other especially with his father being a drug addict and an abusive man to his wife and child.
Dakota tried many times to have a relationship with his father, he stopped trying when his father beat his mother right in front of his eyes.
Dakota will never forget that day.
Dakota and his mother tried numerous times to get out the toxic home but any time they were close to Dakota's father would always find out.
It's seems like they would never get out of the home unless a miracle happens.
He walked over to his father, he tapped his arm trying to get him to wake up seeing he was going to wake up he decided to go back to sleep.
But something in Dakota told him to go back to his father, he checked his wrist for a pulse but there was no pulse then he bent down to his fathers heart which had stopped beating.
Dakota's breathing quickened.
Dakota backed away in fear he quickly ran up the stairs to his mother's room he tapped her harshly trying to get her up.
Dakota's mother quickly woke up from her sleep looking around the room till her eyes landed in her son, who looked like he had seen a ghost.
'What do you want baby, do you know what time it is' Tasha spoke softly looking at Dakota
'Ma I think Dad's dead'Dakota spoke looking at his mother as tears ran down his soft brown cheeks
Tasha looked at her son with wide eyes
'How you know that?' Tasha asked looking at her son in shock
'Because he's down stairs slumped on the floor and he's not breathing'Dakota spoke still in utter shock
'The drugs done got that monster I see, start packing your bags baby I knew this day would come' Tasha spoke looking at her son as he looked at her in shock
'Wait mama you don't care I thought you loved him though'Dakota said staring at his mother with his head tilted
'Yes my child I once did have love for your father but after a while that love has faded' Dakota's mother spoke staring into the abis
Dakota's mother & father had been married to each other for 21 years, he was never like this when she first met him. He treated her like a queen & loved her dearly always bragging to everyone about his 'beautiful queen' as he would say to those around him
This is all changed when Dakota was a baby, his father lost his best friend in a devestating car crash and from that day everything changed.
He became violent and didn't even care a single ounce for the mother of his child or even his son.
Dakota's mother started packing, she was ready to go far away from this place she had called her home, she was ready to call somewhere else home with her child who had endured a lot of pain from his father too.

Once Dakota and his mother had finished packing they took the belongings down stairs both of them not even giving a glance to the dead man slumped on the couch.
Dakota called a uber to go and pick them uo and take them tk the airport.
Since Dakota's mother was a well paid nurse it allowed her to purchase a brand new car however her ex-husband found out about it and damaged the car badly, but she still made sure to buy things for her son too.
Once the uber arrived they loaded there luggage in with the help of the nice driver.
Once they were settled they quickly set off too the hotel which wasn't to far from there house and that they would be staying in for a couple of days till Dakota's mama,Tasha was able to book some tickets for them.
Arriving at the hotel they got out opening the boot to get their luggage saying thank you to the man for his help.
They entered the modern looking hotel that had the theme of black and white.
Once they were given there key to there room, they got on the elevator going to the 5th floor.
Entering their room Dakota and his mama both sighed.
Dakota looked at his mama.
'Mama we free now'Dakota said softly as tears pricked his almond shaped eyes
'Yes baby we are' Tasha spoke placing a kiss on her son's forehead as Dakota relaxed on her chest.
They both couldn't wait for what will be coming in there new Journey together.
It was time for a fresh start for both Dakota and his mother.
