jay straightened his tie, the fabric tight against his collar as he took a deep breath to steady his nerves. the butterflies in his stomach refused to settle, but he had been in situations like this before—he couldn't let them show. the door to the auditorium opened, and the moment they stepped through, the noise hit them like a wave—flashes from cameras, the hum of eager conversations, and the reporters crowding the room. jay's eyes scanned the room, instantly feeling the weight of the spotlight bearing down on them.
beside him, sunoo stumbled slightly, his foot catching on the edge of the carpet. without thinking, jay reached out, his hand brushing against sunoo's arm to steady him. for a moment, their eyes met, and jay caught the flicker of uncertainty there.
"hey," jay murmured, his voice low, only for sunoo to hear. "we got this."
sunoo gave him a shaky smile, the kind that was almost too convincing, but jay could see the tremor in his expression. it wasn't like sunoo to show this much vulnerability, and yet, there it was—clear and raw. jay wasn't sure if he felt more protective or just anxious for both of them.
together, they navigated through the sea of flashing lights and eager faces, sunoo's hand brushing his again, as if seeking a silent anchor. each step was a little heavier, but they pushed through, making their way toward the front. when they finally reached their seats, jay let out a small breath of relief, the tension in his body easing, if only for a moment.
"alright," jay leaned in with a playful grin, his voice light as he attempted to ease the tension hanging between them. "so, we are in love."
sunoo rolled his eyes, but there was a flicker of that familiar smirk, the one that told jay he was coming back to himself. "yeah, like those sickeningly sweet couples," sunoo teased, his voice lighter now.
jay laughed softly, appreciating the small but significant shift. it wasn't much, but it was enough to give him hope. they had rehearsed their lines a hundred times, and now, it was time to perform.
the first questions came quickly, fast and sharp. "how long have you been together?" one reporter asked. "what made you fall for each other?" another followed. and, of course, the inevitable, "wedding bells soon?"
sunoo spoke first, his voice just a touch shaky as he answered. "we've been together for a little while now," he said, his words measured and careful, but his eyes darting away for a split second before he looked back at the room. "it's about shared passions, respect, and... love."
jay quickly added, his tone warm and confident, "it's not just about the music; it's about understanding each other, being there for each other. things just fell into place."
