"How can I make the bond to you disappear?"
Eiji stared at Ash in utter disbelief, too shocked to react. Ash's words echoed in his mind on an infinite loop while his fierce voice resonated in his ears.
Why would Ash ask that? They had enjoyed this day together, so why did Ash suddenly want to break their bond? Did he genuinely wish to block the bond he shared with him? To cut off their connection and get rid of him?
Ash had asked that question so bluntly and forcefully. Eiji felt that Ash was irritated and upset as if he had bottled up all these emotions for some time, and they suddenly exploded out of him after being under too much pressure. Yet, a trace of confusion was also noticeable in their bond. So, Eiji was confused as well.
"Ash, I thought we got along so well? Then, why would you destroy our soul bond? Have I done something wrong? Have I hurt you somehow? If so, I'm sorry - "
Pure sadness overwhelmed Eiji for a moment while he couldn't stop his tears from running down his face. The mere thought of being alone again, of losing his soulmate, scared him to death. He suddenly felt Ash bend over and hug him.
"Eiji, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. Please let me start again, ok? I'm sorry. I only make you cry and cause you pain. You don't deserve a soulmate like me."
Pure sorrow overwhelmed the bond. Yet, he felt that those were Ash's pure and honest feelings, so he immediately relaxed. He sensed that Ash didn't want to destroy their bond and was relieved.
Eiji tried to control the bond again and finally succeeded in stopping his tears, wiping them away with his hand.
Remembering Ash's words, Eiji looked into Ash's eyes, and what he saw there surprised him. He suddenly burst out laughing when he saw Ash's face. Ash stared at him as if he had gone mad.
"You're really weird, you know that? For one second, you're crying, and then you start laughing for no reason. Have you lost your mind now?"
Even if Ash wore his typical stubborn look as his eyes pierced his, he felt Ash's relief when he had started laughing just now.
"I'm sorry, but your face just now surprised me. You really can't control our bond at all," he said, still giggling while he reached towards him and messed up his blonde hair. Pure surprise dawned on Ash's face, and his features softened momentarily. His cheeks turned into a rosy shade of red. Then, he ducked away, and his stubborn glare returned, his eyes boring into his with an intensity that Ash always got when his words didn't make sense to him.
"What do you mean?"
Instead of replying, Eiji leaned closer again and slowly reached for Ash's face with one hand, looking at him to notice any discomfort. He felt Ash's confusion through the bond, but he didn't flinch or pull back, so he continued and cupped his face with one hand before wiping away the remaining tears with his thumb.
"My emotional outburst made you cry as well."
