The blades of grass caress my hand with a gentle touch, snapping back upright into their original place as I release them. As if I had never been there at all. Their earthy scent fills my lungs with each step I take and I am embraced by the tranquil rhythm of the meadow, nature guiding my path.

My eyelids flicker closed in an attempt to keep the sun from burning through my iris' as I continue toward the trickle of a nearby stream. Its song draws me closer with each passing moment. Heat beams down onto my skin, bathing me in golden light and I feel the early tingle of sunburn forming on my neck.

Serenity envelopes me and for once I feel as though I can inhale a deep breath. Despite all my apprehension, I think I will get used to this feeling—this new home.

"Stjarna!" The sound of my name fills one of my ears and escapes through the other.

"Stjarna!" I register it a little more this time.

I pause in my place and blink my eyes open as I look over my shoulder to locate the source of the sound. My mother, standing outside our new house waves me down intensely, her thin arm swaying back and forth over her head in a vouch for my attention. My body follows the movement of my head and turns in its place to face her.

How long have I been out here?

I lift slightly at my skirts and push the basket I carry up toward my elbow to lock it into place. Now with a swifter pace, I make my way back through the meadow where my father is hauling furniture from a cart into the house. I can see now that the afternoon sun is beginning to hang lower in the sky and the threat of dusk looms in its wake.

I make the trek back across the open field between long grass and various flora to where my mother stands waiting, hands resting on her hips.

"Sorry," I mutter, "I think I lost track of time."

I pass the basket of various herbs and berries to my mother that I found out in the field behind our house. With these, she will teach me how to ferment new elixirs and remedies to aid in healing.

She smiles down at the collection of ingredients as she takes it from me. "You managed to find a lot today, we'll enjoy looking for plenty more tomorrow. That is enough for now, Stjarna" she says calmly. I nod as she takes my hand to guide me into the house to find my father.

"Aldir, can you help me with this?" My father grunts as he beckons us in his direction.

My mother sets down the basket on a thick stone bench and steps over various pieces of wood and furniture strewn about to assist him in pushing a large table across the dining room.
