A WEEK LATER

Layne blinks his eyes open, immediately squeezing them shut when the bright light makes his headache worse.

He throws his arm over his face, blocking the light from burning his eyes out. His whole body felt weak.

"Layne, Layne are you awake" Kalei calls to Layne. Who lays beside her in an identical hospital bed. She throws her legs off the side of the white bed, pulling her gown down.

She can't walk yet but she can move. Her balance is a little bit off but she's not paralyzed, thank god.

She had been awake for a day now, the doctors were still running tests. They said they found remnants of a date rape drug and did a rape kit.

It came back positive with Layne's DNA. Everybody is upset, especially Gavin and Lia. Lia is mad at me for some reason.

The weird thing is, is that Layne also had Ketamine in his system. It's confusing, I don't think Layne raped me.

I think we did have sex though, however fucked up that is. When they were telling me about it I tried my hardest to remember the night after the club and I couldn't remember bits.

I remember kissing Layne, like really kissing him. It wasn't like I didn't want it, now, I'm disgusted by it but in the moment I wanted it. The memories that I did have didn't feel rapey at all.

The liquor mixed with the ketamine caused a chain reaction for both of us. Our hearts slowed and more shit, caused us to pass out.

This sucks, Dad wanted us in separate rooms but I told him that I didn't think that's what happened. If Layne was just as drugged up as I was then he couldn't have known what he was doing.

He's marked up, by me I can assume, but it's not "I don't want this" marks. It's "I need this so bad, I want more" marks.

So one of his hands is chained to the hospital bed. After a couple of minutes, he pulls his arm away from his eyes. He tries to sit up, using his other hand but the chain of the handcuff just clanked and pulled tight.

He looks down at his wrist and then at me, confusion and fear stains his face.

"Kalei, Kalei what's going on" Layne rushes out. His breathing increases and his heart rate speeds up.

I look up at the heart monitor, the beeping making me uncomfortable.

"Kalei, why am I handcuffed? I don't like being chained up. Can you help me? Take it off please?"

He panics pulling hard on the chain. The horror on his face breaks my heart. I don't care that I can barely walk, I try anyway.

I fell as soon as I stood up but luckily Layne's bed was close enough that I could catch myself.

He's moving way better than I was when I woke up. I guess it's his fight or flight.

"Layne, Look at me and calm down" I place a warm palm on his face and he does what I tell him. He looks all over my face like he's trying to confirm that it's truly me.

His breathing is still fast but it gradually slows.

"Layne, can you tell me what's wrong" He shakes his head no before he grabs my other hand and puts it on the other side of his face.

His skin is really hot. I look back at the screen and see he has a temperature of 99.

"Okay, okay" I repeat to myself as his grip on my hands starts to loosen and his heart rate returns to normal. Slowly he falls back onto his bed, passing out again.
