Floating

Fern's Pov:

Realizing I had voiced my thoughts, my teeth began to quiver before spitting out my response, "nothat'snotwhatImeanttosay.Iwasjustrememberingsomethingfromthepastandblurteditout.Ireallydidn'tmeanto-" "Woah, calm down little man," Killer stopped my gibberish, chuckling lightly, "I was just surprised..." His voice trailed off as his hand landed on my shoulder, examining my expression. Quiet footsteps approached us, "Ahem... who's this?"

Turning around, the once furious skeleton was now much more visible than he was earlier. His dusty, blue jacket was unzipped revealing a wrinkled t-shirt that he wore. A grey hoodie that was once white covered the majority of his skull, a single socket showing more than the other. Perhaps I was mistaken when I saw a scarf around him before since he wasn't wearing one.

"BROTHER, THIS SKELETON HAS PLANTS AROUND HIS NECK," the faded scarf floated by me. I looked around for the voice as it spoke once more, "HE ALSO SEEMS VERY SMALL... YOU COULD'VE HURT THE POOR GREEN YOU!" Tilting my head up, I came face to face with a Papyrus. A Papyrus with only just his skull floating in the air, "OH, HE LOOKED AT ME!" I don't think he actually thought I saw him as he leaned closer, making me stumble backwards. I probably looked stupid as I realized all eyelights were watching my movements.

"Uh... w-who... is that?" I asked, pointing at the Papyrus in the air.

Dust's Pov:

"Papy, let me sleep in more," I grumbled, turning over on the bed as it creaked beneath me. Papy continued pestering, trying to get me out of bed saying it was "not very productive" and to "stop being a lazybones".

*SQUEE* (Supposed to be the door opening, lol  XD)

I sat up immediately, my eyelights searching for the noise within the darkness of my room. It was obvious who it was as the perpetrator wore a glowing red target at his chest. Summoning a dagger, I threw it at Killer, his annoying snicker made it evident that I had missed despite the target revealing his location. "That was close," he laughed, switching on the light, "Yo, sleepy, ain't gonna come out and enjoy the sun?"

I squinted my sockets, pulling up my hoody to avoid the light, "What the fuck do you want?" Killer chuckled more, "Woah, profanity!" I scoffed, rolling my eyes as he continued, "Didn't Pap already tell you? I'm sure he doesn't just watch you sleep like a weirdo, does he?" "I AM NOT A WEIRDO. I JUST TAKE THE NIGHT WATCH," Pap argued knowing well that Killer couldn't hear him protest.

"What is it?" I asked, slightly curious. The skeleton grinned as he began to scheme something, "Why don't you come and find out?" "Hey, those are premium cigs! Don't squeeze the pack like that," I raised my voice slightly after noticing that his hand held a packet of MY cigarettes, clenching them a little too tightly. I looked over at Pap as he only shrugged (with what shoulders?), shaking his skull as Killer began to toss the packet of cigarettes into the air with a sly smirk, "I wonder what the Boss will think about these, hmm?"

"You wouldn't," I snarled deeply at his intended threat, knowing I'd have to go through another scolding if Nightmare knew I was still smoking, again. He laughed, his sockets squinting wickedly as he made a run for it, his footsteps beginning to echo through the hall. I tossed the blanket away as I got up to chase him with Papy following close by, "AT LEAST YOU ARE MOVING NOW, BROTHER." "Now's not the time to remind me, Pap," I grumbled, running to catch up to the now laughing skeleton through the winding corridors.

As we neared Nightmare's office, I began to surge forward, fuming as I yelled his name, "KILLLLLERRRR!" my eyelights focusing on him as he seemed to hide behind something. Not that it mattered as I jumped up into the air, summoning bones to strike him down. I only aimed to injure rather than dust, wanting to warn him for messing with my things. So, it was odd that Killer didn't move from his spot, his face actually changing to shock as he looked at the figure in front of him. "BROTHER, YOU'RE HITTING THE WRONG TARGET!" I finally heard Pap's voice, seeing the green light that enveloped Killer and the small Sans in front of me.

The Sans held his arms up defensively, his body barely even covering Killer, his teary sockets looking up into mine, "S-stop... leave my brother alone!" Before I could recall my magic, it seemed to seep from me, rather it was sapped into the green shield, it's cracks and holes sealing up in an instant. I stood there, speechless at both his words and how his shield repaired itself, Papy's voice breaking the silence, "WOW, DID YOU SEE THAT BROTHER? THERE'S A GREEN YOU!" He spoke excitedly, his face lighting up as he examined him. I sighed, walking forward and clearing my throat, "Ahem... who's this?"

Fern's Pov:

Their brows seem to raise skeptically at my question, the bodyless Papyrus smiling even more as he neared, "YOU CAN REALLY SEE ME? BROTHER, HE CAN SEE ME. REALLY SEE ME!" He laughed with disbelief, his teeth meeting in a haunting chatter and small happy tears flowing from his sockets. My shoulders fell from their tense position by my jaw, the realization that this Papyrus was merely happy and excited but that only made me question further at his disbelief. Am I not supposed to see him?

"Pap, I understand you're happy, but I don't think he'd appreciate you laughing directly in his face," the Papyrus's brother stated, making him turn to raise a brow at his brother.

"I DON'T BELIEVE THE GREEN, YOU APPRECIATED BEING NEARLY SKEWERED TO DEATH, BROTHER," he retorted with a huff but floated about an arms distance away from me anyway. The dusty skeleton opened his mouth to say something before thinking otherwise to deny the ghost Papyrus's statement, "Touché, Paps..."

Watching them interact with each other reminded me of my Papyrus and myself, a quiet giggle escaping me as I saw the memory faded from my mind. Nightmare stepped forward, breaking the atmosphere by clearing his throat to grab everyone's attention. "I suppose an introduction is necessary for... the new member of our thrilling group."
