"Teacher, can I now behold your true face?" The cleric raised a fake smile. "After all, if I don't even know what my teacher looks like, next time you might be impersonated."
"With the contract in place, no one can impersonate me," Chris said, dispelling the confusion spell on his face and removing his hood.
Black hair, light brown eyes, outstanding features, and a poker face.
Left and right, there was no flaw. So why would he use a confusion spell to conceal his appearance?
The only explanation was that this teacher didn't want others to remember him, or perhaps his identity was special.
Yannick quickly thought of this point, but he didn't pry further. With their current relationship, restrained by the contract, such concealment became irrelevant. After all, everyone had their own secrets.
With that in mind, Yannick brushed aside the question and instead asked something he was more concerned about. "How can I accelerate my own improvement?"
Chris's answer was simple. "Feel the magical elements within you and try to enhance your affinity with the surrounding elements."
Yannick pondered. When he invoked light magic, it seemed like there was a natural ability within him to perceive light magic, but he had never thought about the source of this ability.
"Do you mean that light magic comes from the light element?" Yannick asked.
Chris didn't answer that question but instead asked, "Do you know the incantations for intermediate and advanced healing spells?"
Yannick nodded. "I read them in the religious library of the Santos Duchy."
To be precise, it was the original owner of this body who had read them.
Not everyone could enter the religious library, which often housed various precious scriptures and materials. Only with the permission of the country's bishop could one enter. Typically, only when a cleric reached a sufficient level of advancement would they be allowed to enter and read more advanced light magic. However, since the original owner of this body was the adopted son of the former bishop of the Santos Duchy, it was smooth sailing for him.
This could be considered the only "cheat" he had after arriving in this world, Yannick thought wryly.
"Do you know how to use them?" Chris asked.
"I've tried, but I couldn't. Even if I manage to recite the incantation for advanced healing, the effect is only equivalent to basic healing," Yannick replied.
"Incantations are just a bridge to practicing magic. The true strength of magic depends on your proficiency and understanding of magic. In addition, the quality of the wand, the pronunciation of the incantation, and so on, are all just auxiliary," Chris explained.
Proficiency? Yannick recalled his use of basic healing spells. He had indeed never delved into the source of this power within him, just finding it easy to use without much thought.
With Chris's words in mind, he tried to capture the magic within his body, gathering the free magic elements and guiding them to his palms while reciting the incantation for intermediate healing, which he had memorized after reading through many times.
Since inheriting this body and realizing his situation, Yannick had painstakingly memorized all the advanced light magic he had read in the religious library of the Santos Duchy, even though he hadn't been able to use any of it before.
A warm sensation welled up in his palms, followed by a cluster of bright white light, like a faint candle in the dark and spacious cave, slowly illuminating their faces.
