Episode 7: Oceans apart
Chapter 15: These Beautiful moments could only Last so Long
A word as good as gospel... that's what the people said when they spoke of Whistledown. Others called her a pathetic gossip monger. Anastasia found her to be rather powerful instead. In fact, she believed her to be a much-needed influence in high society, capable of spreading more than mere gossip. Yet her respect died every time an article about her family spread like wildfire through London. This week was a similar example.
The girl sat in bed, having passed another day with the entire ton throwing eyes at her wherever she went. It had been a few days since the news had spread of Marina Thompson's scandal. Stuck in the centre of it all, the Bridgertons too bore a great deal of rumours this past few days. She truly did not know what to think of her luck at this point.
Her ebony hair draped loosely over her shoulder, as she combed it with her fingers absentmindedly.
Just then, a rhythmic tapping of sorts echoed from her window, surprising the girl.
Anastasia arose from the bed, draping a shawl and a night coat over her shoulders as she moved towards the portico, having an inkling already as to who it was.
Her smile deepened as she swung its doors open, gazing down at the man who dared to climb her walls not once but twice.
"Is this a new hobby of yours?", She questioned, leaning against the railing with a grin.
Nicholas Alexander stood below her porch with a sparkling smile, as if he had not just climbed over a wall and trespassed private property, "Not at all, I simply wished to comfort my saddened fiance. After all, the ton has not been the most pleasant as of late".
"My, how chivalrous of you", said Anastasia, rolling her eyes in exasperation, "Unfortunately, I'm not quite as in distress as you would prefer, so you can go now".
Nicholas' gaze turned pitiful at her words, "However could you find it in your heart to turn away a gentleman who only wished for your happiness".
"When the said gentleman climbs over my wall and throws stones at my window, I believe it is more abnormal to be welcoming".
"You wound me, my dear", Nicholas grinned, "If you truly need me to say it out loud, I simply missed you too much".
Anastasia raised an eyebrow at the man, "We met at a party a mere week ago".
"The days are longer when you're not around".
"You should be a poet, Your Highness, in case you get deposed for trespassing".
"Must you always be so negative?", The man asked in defeat.
"Well, since you have already promised to wed me, I see no point in hiding my pessimism", Anastasia declared, seemingly very confident in herself.
