Another drop of blood oozed from my thumb.

"What have I said about that, Vee?"

I shrugged my shoulders, feeling Cole's hand slip into mine. His thumb grazed over mine, wiping away the small droplet of red, smearing it across our skin. He frowned, continuing to wipe until the red was nothing more than a little stain on the callus.

"Right, sorry."

The two of us sat in an unoccupied waiting room at the police station in Ninjago City. It was the next day, with all of the Sons of Garmadon members safely behind bars. Harumi still hadn't talked, truly living up to her title of The Quiet One, refusing to give the police any sort of intel. Since the Bounty was destroyed in Hiroshi's Labyrinth two days ago, us ninja had nowhere to retreat to after the battle. We opted to stay at the police headquarters, taking the empty rooms to relax and unwind. It had been a rough battle for a lot of us. Jay, Nya, Kai and Zane were in the one next to us, all sound asleep, regaining their energy. Lloyd was pacing back and forth on the Interrogation floor of the building, waiting for Harumi to break. Cole and I, however, sat peacefully on a couch by ourselves.

It was the same room I'd had my panic attack in the day before, only a couch had been moved in for us to rest on. As we sat with our hands intertwined, my head against his shoulder, with a large window displaying the blue sky in front of us-- it all seemed drastically familiar. It felt like that day five months ago, when we were alone in the lighthouse. When he'd said he would be my new family. We had been holding hands just like this, looking out at the sky as if all we wanted to do was ride the clouds to another world.

It was so relaxing. So peaceful. It felt like a dream.

But I knew it wasn't a dream-- I hadn't dreamed in years, so there was no doubt that I was awake and experiencing this in real time.

Too bad moments like this can't last forever.

Via, I--

No, I already know, Oneria. I know that... that it can't be like this forever. I can sense it. Or at least... I think that's what this feeling in my chest is. Something is coming. Something that will disrupt this beautiful peace. Even though we stopped Harumi... I know the effects of her ploy still thrive.

For once, I wish you were wrong.

So, then... It's true. This is only temporary.

Unfortunately, most things are. I'm sorry, little one.

Fate has played its Ace card, Oneria. I'm afraid all I have are Jacks.

A nudge on my shoulder snapped me back to the present. Humming a little in question, I lifted my head off Cole's shoulder and looked up at him. His eyes were full of worry, the small smile on his face trying to mask it. "You looked far away again."
